Never Forget When Roger Goodell, Greasy Lying Bastard, Said That Officiating Has Never Been Better In The NFL

Before we get started here I just want to make this abundantly clear that I'm not using the call against Bradberry as an excuse for why the Eagles lost the game last night. Did it rob them of a chance to march down the field with just under 2 minutes left to try to tie the game again? Sure. But that game was lost because the defense couldn't get a stop all night leading up to that point. You can blame the turf for the guys up front not being able to generate any pressure on Mahomes. You can blame Jonathan Gannon for not making any adjustments once they realized they weren't getting any pressure. The Eagles offense scored 35 points last night. Even with a bullshit like that on Bradberry, 35 points should get the job done.

By the letter of the law, was it the right call? Yeah whatever maybe sure. But you can tell by the fact that JuJu didn't get up immediately begging for a flag to be thrown that even he didn't think there was a penalty there. Or at least not enough of one that it actually had an impact on the play. So for that to be the one time the officials go by the letter of the law, with under 2 minutes left in a tied Super Bowl? Well I'll just again refer to what Michael Barkann had to say above.

And speaking of bullshit, that brings us to Roger Goodell. He had this to say just a few days ago.

There are 285 total games in an NFL season. That gives you 17100 minutes of football. And in the final, most crucial 2 minutes out of those 17100, the officials had to make it about themselves. They just couldn't let an otherwise incredible Super Bowl go on without them being the center of attention. Carl Sheffers and his crew saw how much buzz the turf was getting and realized they needed to do something big to get the story back onto them. And that's the level of officiating that Roger Goodell has the audacity to call the best it's ever been? If anything that should be a sign that maybe it's time to bring in a new commissioner who can figure out how to get better officiating in the game.

And this isn't just about the hold call on Bradberry. This can go back to the no-call for the Saints in the NFC Championship Game a few years ago. The fact of the matter is that every year there are crucial moments that always seem to get blown by the officials. Every year there are big time games that end with one of the main stories being the officiating crew. So Roger Goodell either 1) knows that officiating in the NFL is still dog shit but decided to lie through his teeth like a sack of shit anyway, or 2) doesn't realize that officiating is still dog shit and thus proves that he is unfit for the job as commissioner. Either scenario is a tough look for Roger.

Sidenote: This has easily been one of the most miserable days of my existence. I'm really just trying to find someone to aim my anger towards, and it feels a lot better to hate Roger Goodell than guys on your favorite team.
