Sam Bankman Fried Is Now Potentially Tampering With Witnesses

Giphy Images.

If Sam Bankman Fried wasn't already a first-ballot worst-fucking-criminal Hall of Famer, he is after this weekend.

Not only has he gone on a more aggressive press tour than Prince Harry but SBF thought it was a good idea to reach out to some of his old colleagues.

CNBC - Bankman-Fried reached out to the “current General Counsel of FTX US who may be a witness at trial,” prosecutors said. Ryne Miller, who was not identified by name in the government filing, is the current counsel for FTX US, and a former partner at Kirkland & Ellis.

The government claims that Bankman-Fried wrote to Miller via Signal, an encrypted messaging app, on Jan. 15, days after bankruptcy officials at crypto exchange disclosed the recovery of more than $5 billion in FTX assets.

“I would really love to reconnect and see if there’s a way for us to have a constructive relationship, use each other as resources when possible, or at least vet things with each other,” Bankman-Fried allegedly told Miller.

Just one problem… the move might constitute witness tampering. You see, FTX's current counsel could be asked to take the stand as a witness. And therein lies the issue.

It probably doesn't help that Sam used Signal, which is an encrypted messaging app that's only used for two things: sending tasteful nudes… and criminal activity. Oh, and remember that snitch Caroline Ellison who flipped on Sam? She told prosecutors that Sam said "many legal cases turn on documentation and it is more difficult to build a legal case if information is not written down or preserved." Oof.

Meanwhile, Sam's lawyers aren't just asking that he be allowed to go to happy hour with his ex-colleagues (Margaritaville, anyone?). They're also allegedly asking to remove the bail condition that bars Sam from touching FTX, Alameda etc. funds.

What in the actual fuck?
