Was Noel Gallagher's Now Ex-Wife Preventing Oasis From Reuniting This Whole Time? It Appears So. My Column:

NME - The former Oasis guitarist and co-vocalist – who today (January 17) announced his forthcoming album with the High Flying Birds, ‘Council Skies’ – quit the band in 2009, saying that he “simply could not go on” working with brother Liam Gallagher.

“You should never say never,” Noel told BBC Radio Manchester today (January 17), but added that “it would have to take an extraordinary set of circumstances”.

“That’s not to say that those circumstances would never come about,” he added.

In an NME Big Read cover story in 2020, Liam also said that an Oasis reunion will happen “very fucking soon,” because he believes Noel is “greedy and he loves money and he knows that it’s got to happen soon or it won’t happen”.

The brothers appeared to be embroiled in a fresh feud late last year, after Liam claimed there were no Oasis songs in his Knebworth 22 documentary because “angry squirt” Noel Gallagher “blocked them”.

This mother fucker.

For YEARS now this guy has been shooting down any and all talk of Oasis getting back together.

Just this past October, Noel said there’s “no point” in an Oasis reunion because the band still sells “as many records now” as they did when they were together.

For all his flaws, younger brother Liam has been adamant about a reunion for years now. In February of last year he went so far as to say that Oasis “should never have split up,” and that he would “love” the iconic band to get back together.

The year before that, Liam said last year he would reform Oasis for free after Noel named his price at 100 million to get the band back together.

Nate, Robbie, and I, three of the biggest Oasis fans in the world, have maintained since we all met that we would drop anything and head to London the second a reunion show is announced.

Call me lame and a loser all you want, they've been my favorite band since I was a little kid. They were the first concert I ever went to, back in like 1996 I think. I saved up my bus boy money and paid my friend John's older brother to drive me to Worcester Centrum and let me tag along. I think the ticket was $30. It was my first time experiencing live music. And it changed my life. (It was also my first time getting contact high, even though I had no idea what it was at the time). I fell in love with hearing and seeing music performed live and knew it was what I wanted to somehow get the chance to experience or do the rest of my life.

So you could say Oasis plays a sentimental part of my life.

Since then, I've seen Noel and Liam play dozens of times separately.

Including the disastrous Lolla set in 2017 when Liam walked off stage after 2 minutes

Suffice to say, it's been a fucking shit show since the band broke up.

And here's where my tinfoil hat comes out.

Noel and this chick Sara MacDonald got married in 2010. They were dating for a few years before that.

Noel has a kid with this girl he's dating, Sarah. Two years later, he quits the band like a cockbag. A year after that, he marries Sarah, and turns into one of those guys who turns his back on his boys.

We all know the kind.

When they were single, there was no one better. The life of the party, the straw that stirs the drink, always down for a good time. Loved rallying the troops, always the last one to leave the bar, everybody's favorite friend.

But then, they meet a girl. And everything changes.

First, it's little things. They start dressing differently. Then they start canceling and bailing on plans. Then they become silent on the group chats. (Probably because they turned it on do not disturb). Before you know it, they're so wrapped up in their girlfriend's world, and devoting 110% of their attention and time to her, her wants, her likes, her friends, her everything, that they become ghosts. You begin seeing them like once a year, at a fantasy draft or a friend's wedding or something, and you don't even recognize them anymore.

You know deep down that party animal, great buddy still exists, but he resides in a cage now, like a tiger in a zoo.

Frank the Tank is a perfect example.

It sucks but it is what it its. Some guys are just like that.

The shittiest part of it all is when their relationship inevitably goes to shit, or they're on the rocks, he's right back to being your best friend, blowing you up around the clock, wanting to hang out, grab a beer, catch a game, etc.

You welcome him back with open arms, because you're a good guy, and you know it's not your buddy's fault he's a slave to the pussy. It's his monkey brain. But you know that the minute things get back on track, and he's out of the dog house, or he finds a new vagina, you'll lose him again.

That's exactly what is now playing out with Noel Gallagher. And it's sad.

I never took Noel to be such a bitch.

I always thought he was a raging fucking asshole, but I never thought he'd be the brother that'd be pussy whipped.

How fucking transparent can you be to blow off your brother, bandmates, and fans for 15 years, not simply saying no to requests to reunite, but calling the requests moronic, pointless, and shitting all over everybody, to then saying, "well you can never say never" the day after you break up from your wife?

I'm not sure if Sarah Macdonald was necessarily a "Yoko Ono" in all this, forbidding Noel from playing with his brother (since they did hate each other), but I can definitely see it.

Back to our old buddy. There's nothing worse than the girl who comes into a guys life and doesn't accept his friends, or the life he had before her, and wants to overhaul everything. She undermines his friendships, makes him choose between his friend(s) and her, and just drives a huge wedge between everything.

If Sarah Macdonald was that chick, and Noel is as big of a pussy as he now appears to be, there is now zero surprise this reunion seemed as impossible as it did prior to this weekend.

Glass half full in all of this, Noel seems to have come to his senses, realizes how big the potential of a reunion, a tour, and new music can be, and I'm willing to wager we hear an announcement in the next few weeks, along with a very carefully crafted press released "paparazzi" pic of the brothers exiting a London Pub. You heard it hear first.

And thank God if it happens!

p.s. - if you haven't seen Supersonic, the Oasis documentary on their epic Knebworth show, it's a must watch if you're a music fan, or fan of the band.
