Paul McCartney Nearly Hit By Car While Trying To Recreate The Abbey Road Picture
New York Post- Sir Paul McCartney almost became Abbey roadkill.
The 80-year-old Beatles icon and his daughter Mary were at Abbey Road Studios Sunday when she asked him to re-create the iconic photo when a car came out of nowhere and almost ran over the legendary singer over.
Mary McCartney — who is currently promoting a documentary about the legendary recording studio called “If These Walls Could Sing” — told the Mirror the near accident happened when she asked her father to re-create the 1969 album cover as they were leaving the studio.
“The bit where the car nearly ran him over on the zebra crossing, that was so funny,” said the 53-year-old. “As we were leaving [the studio], I said, ‘I’ll film you [on the crossing],’ and he went over and this car totally didn’t stop for him!”
Holy moly.
Yesterday, I wrote a blog where I said I don't even like seeing 'Paul McCartney' trending on Twitter these days, as it gives me anxiety that something horrible has happened to him, and today I stumble upon this headline: "PAUL McCARTNEY ALMOST HIT BY CAR WHILE TRYING TO RECREATE ABBEY ROAD PICTURE"
In my mind, Paul doesn't even look both ways before he crosses the street anymore. He just thinks, "They'll see me! I'm a bloody Beatle!" and goes for it. Could you imagine if that's how Sir Paul unfortunately passed, tho? Seriously?!
Some British bloke is trying to get to work on time, decides they're not gonna slow down for the billionth asshole trying to get their own cutesy little 'Abbey Road' picture, and they end up KILLING PAUL McCARTNEY ON ABBEY ROAD?!
Even if they just bumped into him or something, and got out of their car to check on whoever it was, and realized it was SIR PAUL McCARTNEY they hit (in arguably the most famous spot he's ever stood!), you've gotta think you're on acid or hanging with Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds, right?
What do you even do with the person who kills Paul McCartney on Abbey Road in that situation? Even if it was a complete and total accident I think they revert straight back to the death penalty based on the circumstances alone. It would rob us of a Beatle and ruin the 'Abbey Road' cover for life! You can't ruin 'Abbey Road' for the world!
Thank god we don't have to deal with any of that nonsense tho; Paul lives to fight another day.
P.S. This story comes outta the promotional tour for Mary McCartney's new Disney+ documentary, 'If These Walls Could Sing' on the history Abbey Road Studios. It's not a must-watch doc like 'Get Back' or anything, but I watched it over Christmas break and thought it was quick and enjoyable for any Beatles or even Pink Floyd fans. Plenty of other artists were featured as well, but I thought the best footage was the stuff from those two bands.
Bonus: Here's my Abbey Road picture from London in March….
I know it ain't perfect but it's the best I got! Shoutout to the random tourist who took it for me.
