It Doesn't Get Much Better Than Talking The Amount Of Shit Jaire Alexander Did And Backing It All Up By Completely Shutting Down Justin Jefferson In Yesterday's Must-Win Game
Jaire Alexander was not a happy camper after Justin Jefferson torched the Packers' defense earlier in the season for nearly 200 yards and multiple scores. Despite begging his coaches all week long, they would not allow him to shadow the star wideout. Instead Joe Barry opted to deploy an extremely soft zone coverage which failed miserably. Jaire called the performance from Jefferson a fluke and talked a ton of shit leading up their must-win Week 17 matchup on Sunday.
Alexander wanted Jefferson again and this time he finally got his wish. Vikings fans got all excited when Jefferson went quiet on social media leading up to kickoff. They took this as a sign he was taking the trash talk very seriously. Good heavens, not the social media accounts!
The end result? For the first time in his NFL career, Justin Jefferson was held to just one catch. It was only the second time he'd been held to under 20 yards. Jaire hit him with the Griddy right away. It was borderline insane how early in the game he did this, but it held up.
Alexander was extremely aggressive in guarding Jefferson and constantly jammed him at the line, or in this instance just straight up knocked him over.
Jefferson got so frustrated he basically assaulted a ref.
For any Vikings fan asking why Jaire didn't get a taunting penalty with the griddy, why didn't Jefferson get anything for physical violence on an official? I don't want to hear a single word. Also opposing players complaining about taunting not being called is so fucking soft.
After the game Alexander put on a preposterously big hat and talked some more shit, specifically aimed at Skip and Shannon. There are very few things in this world better than talking an enormous amount of shit and backing it up. What a feeling that had to be for Jaire.
Also, whenever an athlete is talking about something serious while wearing one of these hats it's so much funnier.
At the end of the day Jaire Alexander talked the talk and backed it all up in the biggest way. He lived inside Jefferson's head all game and it was beautiful to see.
I honestly didn't even know it was possible to lock down number 18 like that. Sure he had some safety help on some plays, but Jaire had his fingerprints all over this one. Incredible job by him. It's been an up and down year for the Packer CB, but yesterday showcased all of his greatness. The whole secondary played outstanding and that must continue if the Pack are gonna beat Detroit and sneak into the dance.
