The First Good Idea From FIFA: They Reportedly Want To Have The World Cup Every 3 Years Going Forward

Yep. I'm all in on this. I don't see how it's a bad thing. There's still enough of a gap to make it feel special and we get more World Cups in our lifetime? That's what we call a classic win-win in the industry. Now I know it's a money grab. Everything FIFA does is a money grab. But this is good. It's the first good idea they've had basically forever. If they really wanted to be smart they'd scrap the idea of expanding the World Cup for 2026 and keep it at 32 teams. It's the perfect number.

Here's other ideas that are free. Keep the World Cup in the summer. Keep the World Cup in countries that should host it - not Qatar. Those two are the ones that are pretty simple to understand. Don't get me wrong, having the World Cup on during the day was awesome. But it was jam packed between the end of college football season, the start of college basketball, the heart of NFL, NBA and NHL. It was dumb as shit.

The World Cup needs to be in June. Give us a few weeks of daytime sports when it's a deadtime in sports. Make it so it gives us something to watch besides baseball after the Stanley Cup and NBA Finals. You want even more eyeballs on the sport here in America there's your answer.

Not to mention 4 years is so long. I was having this discussion with someone lately. We heard all about how this group of the US players will likely be the same for 2026. That's not true. Four years is so fucking long. Guys will get lapped on the depth chart. Someone will come out of nowhere to look like a star - Matt Turner for instance. Someone like Tim Ream was an afterthought and comes in late. It's pointless to try and figure out a roster in 4 years from now. But 3 years? That at least gives us a clearer look considering you go into World Cup qualifying quicker. You get the idea of a pool of players. We love free agency, the draft, etc. Now we'd get a better look at that in soccer.

So sign me up. Every 3 years in the summer. USA will have to win one at some point. At the minimum we get a better chance because there will be more chances. Oh and go back to 32 teams. Not everything needs expansion.
