DC Had A Better 2022 Than Marvel

Today in My Mom's Basement, Clem and I are discussing the news of the week and breaking down 2022 from a nerd's perspective! We went down the list like a couple of high school teachers and graded all of the projects that DC/Marvel/Star Wars/Game of Thrones had to offer, and then delivered overall grades to each universe.

We talked about the Batman Beyond movie with Michael Keaton getting cancelled, Battinson possibly joining the DCU (but James Gunn denying it), Iron Man getting added to the national film registry, rumors about Deadpool 3 featuring the TVA from Loki, the trailer for '65' - a new dinosaur movie starring Adam Driver - and so much more!

We didn't record late enough to react to James Gunn announcing that he's writing a Superman film that WON'T star Henry Cavill - and while I feel bad for Cavill and think he was great in the role - I really don't mind the DCU getting a full reboot. I actually think it's for the best.

Maybe he can go play James Bond now....

Here's my full list of grades....

I know this is gonna sound crazy, but I think especially COMPARED TO EXPECTATIONS, DC had a better year than Marvel!

Hear me out - Marvel definitely put out more consistently good content than DC this year, but I don't think any of the shows Marvel released in 2022 could hold a candle to 'Peacemaker', and I don't think any of the movies they released in 2022 could hold a candle to 'The Batman'!

Both of those projects from DC absolutely blew me away and stuck with me throughout the year, while Marvel put out a lot of stuff like 'Moon Knight', 'Ms. Marvel', 'She-Hulk', and 'Werewolf By Night' - which I enjoyed, no doubt - but can't really see myself going back to and rewatching.

Combine that with the fact that DC ended the year by hiring James Gunn and Peter Safran and handing them the keys to the kingdom, and I think they won! I also know I'm more positive than most when it comes to these movies, and that many are hoping 2023 is a "bounce back" year for Marvel - while expectations were already on the floor for DC.

I'm hopeful for all four universes' futures, though - I think the outlook is great for them all.
