If You Want To Be Rich, Grow Up To Be A Major League Shortstop

While you were sleeping Carlos Correa got locked up long term, 13 years, $350 million from the San Francisco Giants. That is a lotttttttt of cash for a guy who hasn't ever hit 30 homers or had 100 RBI in a season, but he's still a damn good player so I get the deal. But the big picture is all about MLB shortstops. If you want to be rich or if you want your kids to be rich, have them grow up and be a MLB shortstop. Then have them become free agents and they will absolutely cash out, especially if they have Scott Boras as their agent.

Heading into free agency there were 4 big shortstops on the market, 3 of them have signed so far. Trea Turner with an 11 year, $300 million deal (reportedly turned down $340 million), Xander Bogaerts signed for $280 million over 11 years, and Correa with his 13 year, $350 million deal. INSANE money between those 3 guys, and the other member of the big 4, Dansby Swanson hasn't even signed yet! He won't get $350 million or anywhere close to that, but he will push these 4 contracts to over a billion dollars. Insane.

Shortstop is a sexy position, always has been. But now the money attached to the position makes it easily the best position to play in the game. It's the QB of baseball. $930 million for 3 guys is insane. You're a fool if you aren't putting your 3-year-old out at shortstop and peppering ground balls at them. Get them ready early and the paycheck will come. Insane money being thrown around at the position. It's a good day to be a shortstop.
