OH NO: Jimmy Garoppolo Gets Carted Off The Field As 49ers' Hopes Now Hinge On Mr. Irrelevant Brock Purdy
The whole premise behind the San Francisco 49ers drafting Trey Lance to replace Jimmy Garoppolo was because of the latter's inability to stay healthy. Unfortunately, Lance went down with a season-ending injury in Week 2 during his would-be takeover campaign, and now, Jimmy G is banged-up again to the point where the Niners are literally turning to the last pick in the entire 2022 NFL Draft at the most important position on the field.
All this comes on the heels of a report from Sunday morning that suggested San Francisco might bring Garoppolo back for next year:
What's worst about this whole situation is Jimmy G's latest injury doesn't look to be of the short-term variety (Warning: Queasy footage incoming):
The 49ers have been snakebitten by injuries more than any team I can recall in recent years. It seems like they always have guys coming in and out of the lineup. Say whatever you want about Jimmy G and his various shortcomings. During his last two healthy seasons, San Francisco has made it as far as the Super Bowl and NFC Championship Game respectively. That's the kicker, though. Health.
Injuries suck and I know they're a part of football. If there's anyone who's deserved not to be injured given all the bullshit the 49ers have put him through, it's Jimmy Garoppolo. Alas, here he goes. Down again. What a sticky situation San Francisco has to navigate heading into next offseason. More saliently for the present, Garoppolo's injury could change the entire complexion of the playoff picture and who is or isn't a Super Bowl contender.
