Chill Out, Man. It's Just Soccer

Chief already blogged earlier about Lukaku missing 3 massive opportunities right in front of the cage to get Belgium on the board and help them advance in the World Cup. Admittedly that had to have been a frustrating night for Lukaku. And what do people do when they're frustrated? Just start randomly punching a bunch of shit.

That dugout window never stood a chance. Punching shit feels good. But that doesn't last forever. So once the initial adrenaline of that wore off, now Lukaku is stuck there with a battered fist and a shattered heart. So he broke down in tears while Thierry Henry had to console him.

Now it's never fun to watch a grown man cry. Especially not someone the size of Romelu Lukaku. That's tough to watch and my heart breaks for the guy. So in my best efforts to help console him a little bit and make him feel better about his performance to close out the tournament for Belgium…

It's just soccer, dude.

Listen. I love to get into it every 4 years just as much as the next guy. But at the end of the day, it's just soccer. It's not like he totally blew the game in a sport that really matters. He didn't miss an empty net in game 7 of the Stanley Cup. It's not like he had a brutal turnover in the PLL championship game. It's just soccer. You don't have to break your hand over some plexiglass over soccer. You don't need to bawl your eyes out in front of an internationally televised audience. If this were lacrosse? I'd get it. It would make sense. This would be a performance and a loss that sticks with you for the rest of your life, and it would be difficult to show your face in your home country ever again. But it's not lacrosse. It's just soccer.

I just hope if Lukaku is reading this blog right now he realizes that we'll forget this ever even happened in the first place. It might suck for now but it'll be out of everybody's head the moment the first kickoff happens tonight in New England. So don't beat yourself up over it too much, big fella. Chin up.
