That Mitch Marner Is So Hot Right Now

This could very well end up being the biggest celebration the Toronto Maple Leafs get to enjoy this season, so let's just let them have this one. Because in the 105 year history of the Toronto Maple Leafs, no player has ever registered a point in more consecutive games than Mitch Marner has when he put in this empty netter last night to make 18 straight.

An 18-game point streak also has Mitch Marner tied with legends Darryl Sittler and Eddie Olczyk for the longest point streak in Maple Leafs history. It also has him tied with Wayne Gretzky on the all-time list. Granted, Gretzky had an 18-game point streak 3 separate times in his career, and that was Gretzky's 9th lowest point streak in his career (51, 39, 30, 28, 25, 24, 23, 19, 18). But it's still nice for Mitch Marner to be right next to Gretzky on an all-time list.

The last game Mitch Marner didn't get at least 1-point in was back on October 24th. Since then it's been 24 points in his last 18 games. In the month of November, the Toronto Maple Leafs played 15 games and went 11-1-3. So even if they didn't play a single game in the month of October, they'd still be tied with the Colorado Avalanche right now in points. Not sure if you guys remember or not, but the Avs ended up winning this trophy called the Stanley Cup last season.

Now the thing here, obviously, is that this is the Toronto Maple Leafs we are talking about. These losers have dug themselves such a deep hole that nothing they do in the regular season means anything now. They haven't won a playoff series since the year before the lockout. A point-streak in December doesn't mean shit. A great regular season doesn't mean shit. But if playoff series were won based off of vibes and vibes alone, then I'd say the Leafs are set up here to go on a deep run this upcoming spring. 18-game point streaks, these reverse retro sweaters, the fellas getting wetted up in the locker room after wins in November. Really makes you wonder how they're going to find a way to fuck it up in April.
