Chicago's New Music Venue Salt Shed Has A 2023 Lineup That Will Knock Your Socks Off

Sun Times - There will be plenty of music in the air — indoors — at The Salt Shed next year as the first wave of the 2023 concert season was announced Tuesday morning.

As part of the 1.5-acre venue complex from 16th on Center, the indoor concert space known as The Shed will make its debut with an eclectic mix of musicmakers including The Flaming Lips, a three-night residency from King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard, punk master Iggy Pop, a reunited Bikini Kill, Swedish grunge-popster Tove Lo, and The Roots, among others.

The Shed (which follows last summer’s debut of the outdoor Fairgrounds concert space) will feature multi-level grandstand seating, opera boxes, bars and more. The complex is located on the iconic former site of the Morton Salt company at 1357 N. Elston Ave.

Tickets for all The Shed shows go on sale at 10 a.m. Nov. 18 at saltshedchicago.com.

The fact this is just the first "wave" they've announced is really impressive. If the second is equally stacked, we're in for a treat on Goose Island this year. Aside from Gordo, who is beyond horrible, this is a really strong showing for a first-year venue.

For those of you that have no idea what the hell Salt Shed is, it's one of the most unique live music venues in the country.

It opened on the site of the old Morton Salt Factory on Goose Island, next to Division and the River. Right on Elston.

Check this place out -

Indoor/outdoor convertible music space, on the river, with plenty of room around it with no neighbors so they can make lots of noise. Yes I'm jealous as fuck these guys got this space, but it's the Thalia Hall crew operating it so you know you can expect a great programming schedule, and great service.

Really quick, the shows I'm most looking forward to catching here -

1- Tyler Childers

I have been wanting to see him for a couple years now and I can't imagine a better venue. (Maybe Carol's). Can't wait for this one outside under the stars on June 8th.

2- Big Gigantic

Saw them once before. Not in a venue like this though. Can't wait Feb 18th.

3- The Roots

One of my favorite groups from the 2000s. Have never got the chance to see them live before. March 18th.

4 - The Flaming Lips

Huge throwback.

5 - Tove Lo

If you haven't listened to her newest album, listen to it. One of the best produced, crazy sounding albums you'll ever hear.

6- Third Eye Blind

What the hell right?

7 - Bikini Kill

Found out about her/them this past year and love the alt shit they're doing.
