Josh McDaniels Losing to Jeff Saturday Pretty Much Guarantees He's Getting Fired in Las Vegas And Will End Up Back in New England

There are few things in this world as emotional as watching someone you were once beholden to fail. And one of those things that qualifies is watching said person fail in a way that makes you look good. As petty, shallow, and vindictive as it may sound, we as human beings are wired in such a way as to hope the people who once depended on us can't survive in our absence. As a Broadway producer once put it, "It is not enough that I succeed. Others must also fail."

Which brings me to the petty, shallow, and vindictive failure that is Josh McDaniels losing to Jeff Saturday. A man who has not only been an NFL head coach for all of about four days, but has never, ever, coached in any respect, at any level anywhere. And went into today without anyone on his staff ever having called an offensive play. And yet here McDaniels finds himself today. At 2-7 on the season. Having lost to the team that he rejected a few years back. And humiliated by the franchise he himself humiliated:

It's hard to imagine that this entire situation is an accident. That somehow McDaniels' former employer never saw this coming, was unprepared for this moment, and would suffer in his absence. Or that the abysmal failure of the Colts last week wasn't part of some vast, eternal plan.

But not for all of us. Some saw this situation unfolding:

There are still some steps to go in this process. But one cannot ignore the way these events are unfolding exactly according to Bill Belichick's design:

Sad, if true. But for all of us in New England who have long argued that McDaniels is a great coordinator but a lousy head coach, it would be vindication. And validation of Belichick's plan to not replace his last Offensive Coordinator with a new one. But just sit back, let him fail, and let him replace his replacement.

Damn, how I love it when one of Belichick's long cons pays off.
