Ben Gordon Got Arrested Last Night At Rock n Roll McDonalds In Chicago
ABC Chicago- Former Chicago Bulls player Ben Gordon was arrested early Saturday after hitting a security guard and shoving another at a business in River North, police said.
He was being escorted out of the business in the 600 block of North Clark Street about 3:20 a.m. when he struck a security guard in the face and threw him to the ground, according to Chicago police. He also allegedly shoved another guard to the ground.
Gordon, 39, is charged with misdemeanor counts of battery causing bodily harm and battery making physical contact.
Few things here:
First off, this is really sad. Not just that two men doing their job got assaulted by a local Chicago legend, and that man was taken away in handcuffs to spend the night in jail. But watching a pretty great guy, Ben Gordon, spiral downward these last couple years.
Back in 2020 Greenie blogged about a great piece Gordon did for "The Players Tribune", speaking up and being totally open and honest about his deteriorating mental health.
His rawness and transparency, as Greenie noted, regarding his mental health was the kind of discussion we should be having more of, especially men, especially role models and athletes, being candid about it is only going to help people.
Obviously, Gordon is still struggling with things.
I hope he's able to get the help he needs and get back on track. A lot of people are pulling for him.
Secondly, and far less important, why the fuck are we still calling Rock n Roll McDonalds "Rock n Roll McDonalds"?
For years and years, the name fit the place.
It was the flagship Mcdonald's in America. Located at one of the busiest intersections in Chicago, a sprawling massive, two story building with throwback diner seating and music paraphernalia all over the walls.
The place was a scene late at nights after the bars and clubs all closed.
But that all changed a few years ago when McDonalds gutted this space as part of their "rebrand" and "remodel".
They leveled the space, and rebuilt once of the most hideous buildings you've ever seen.
Inside is the most sterile, boring, and shitty run establishment you'll find anywhere.
There's a bank of electronic kiosks you now have to stand in line to order from and pay at. Then you go and stand in a crowd of other people waiting for orders, in front of one counter, where two poor saps yell out order numbers when they're ready.
The vibe and energy sucks, the service sucks, and it's an eyesore everytime you drive by.

Lastly, I'll always have found memories of Ben Gordon thanks to his performance in one of the greatest playoff series of all time. The 2009 Celtics Bulls Eastern Conference matchup that went 7 games.
That series included seven overtime periods in four different games, five games were decided by three points or less, and the teams alternated wins from Games 3 to 7.
I was lucky enough to be at the United Center for game 6, the night him and Ray Allen went at it, both totally out of their minds and unconscious from 3. The game went into Triple OT with the Bulls pulling off the 128-127 upset thanks to a clutch strip of Pierce and dunk by Noah and Gordon's 42 points. His fellow UConn alum, Ray Allen had 51. It was one of the best sporting events I’ve ever witnessed in person.
