NFL.com - Amazon and the National Football League announced today that in 2023, Prime Video will exclusively stream a newly scheduled "Black Friday" game the Friday after Thanksgiving Day. The first-ever NFL Black Friday game will take place Friday, Nov. 24, 2023 with an expected kick off of 3 p.m. ET. The participating teams will be announced when the 2023 schedule is released.

"Thanksgiving is synonymous with football and we're excited to give our fans another day of NFL action during this holiday weekend," said Hans Schroeder, Chief Operating Officer for NFL Media. "Amazon is uniquely positioned to partner with us for this game as Black Friday is one of the most important days of the year for their business."

My God, the NFL is just taking everything in their path. Black Friday was a staple in the college football world with rivalry games. The NFL has decided Black Friday is now theirs also.

Over the years it's been interesting to watch the NFL just become a straight up mega power with it's scheduling. I still remember scrambling to find a TV or a bar with the NFL Network in 2007 for a matchup of 10-1 Green Bay at 10-1 Dallas. At the time, the NFL's TV network still wasn't a must have in every home like it is today. Amazing. Feels like describing ancient times. Then I remember watching MLB bow down to the NFL and move World Series games off of Sunday Nights. Something that no one ever expected. The World Series moving for NFL regular season ? Believe it. The NFL was bigger.  Recently the NFL came for the NBA with Christmas scheduling. Nothing is off limits.

The 3pm time of this one seems odd yet perfect to me. Nothing better than firing up a leftover sandwich and settling in for a football game. On the flip side, if it sucks it's absolutely prime (pun intended) for a nap through the 2nd and 3rd quarter and wake up when it's close in the 4th. Or if you are 40+ and still clubbing on Thanksgiving night with your hat on your bald head like a vagabond, 3pm is right around when you would wake up from the night before. Bonus points if the Patriots are playing since that's the only team you watch, yet likely can't name 10 players. However, when the playoffs roll around all of sudden you become the 12th man.

Either way, just interesting to see that The NFL can put a game on any time, any day and absolutely DOMINATE the ratings.

Speaking of Black Friday, check out the new merch in the store. Our annual Black Friday sale will take place again this year.
