Baltimore Prosecutors Have Officially Dropped Their Case Against Adnan Syed

Baltimore Sun- Baltimore prosecutors on Tuesday dropped the charges against Adnan Syed, the man whose legal saga rose to international renown because of the hit podcast “Serial.” The abrupt move comes after Syed’s conviction in the 1999 killing of Hae Min Lee was overturned last month. However, his murder, kidnapping and robbery charges loomed while the city State’s Attorney Marilyn Mosby’s office considered whether to dismiss his case or try him again in his Woodlawn High School sweetheart’s death.

Mosby said her decision hinged on new, last-ditch DNA testing being conducted on evidence collected in the decades-old homicide. The DNA test results excluded Syed, the public defender’s office, which is representing Syed, said in a news release after court Tuesday.

Trial over! Appeal over! Entire case over! Adnan Syed is a free man 23 years after he was locked up thanks to the power of podcasting and Mailchimp ads. What a world we live in.

I'll admit that I don't remember much of the details since I binged Serial back when my daughter was born and she is now in third grade. However, that weasel Jay's testimony always felt flimsy and the decidedly one-way narrative being sent into my ears during those sleep deprived mornings sure made Adnan seem like an innocent man unjustly thrown in the slammer.

Well the United States Justice System reinforced my overworked brain's thoughts by saying Adnan is a free man that no longer has to worry about anything else from that case popping back up, which feels like a huge win for #TeamAdnan since when has the United States Justice System ever done anything wrong?

Actually you know what? Don't answer that. Instead you can congratulate Adnan on his freedom even though I think he needs to find a new family after they pulled this stunt.
