The Ana De Armas NC-17 Marilyn Monroe Biopic Is Dogshit
A look at the rise to fame and the epic demise of actress Marilyn Monroe, one of the biggest stars in the world.
This movie got a massive amount of hype since it was announced. It has the most objectively beautiful actress in Hollywood playing an icon of American culture and cinema. It's made by a director known for stunning visuals and solid storytelling. It's based on a pulitzer/national book award winning biographical fiction novel. AND, it's rated NC-17 meaning they were not gonna pull any punches. What could go wrong? The answer is this: A lot.
A movie that I thought would seriously dive into the weird world of Monroe while not being bound by non-fiction turned out to be a pretentious, abrasive piece of shit that is nearly 3 hours long. It almost seems like this movie had one objective and that is to make you turn it off before the halfway point. It's just an uncomfortable, boring art-piece that thinks it is the fanciest, high-concept film out there. It's not. Just a piece of garbage.
I think an easy way to dissuade anyone from the movie is this tweet:
If there was ever a hyped up movie to avoid, it's this. Watch the HBO doc on Monroe instead.
