The First Trailer For HBO's 'The Last Of Us' Is AWESOME
The Last Of Us follows Joel, a smuggler tasked with escorting a teenage girl, Ellie, across a post-apocalyptic United States.
In my opinion, The Last Of Us: Part I is the best game to be released in the last decade. However, video game TV/Movie adaptations had a HORRIFIC track record which made me afraid for how this would turn out. There are a few things that have eased my mind on that, though.
#1. It being on HBO: This IP is RAW and violent. It cannot be on standard TV or Netflix. HBO almost never misses and they have the money to back a strong production value.
#2. Neil Druckmann, who created the game, is an EP, writer and director for the series: This is EXTREMELY rare in the video game movie/show genre. Usually it is left to the brain of somebody who never played or cared for the series, IE the Paramount+ Halo series.
#3. Craig Mazin is the showrunner: Wanna know the last thing he made for HBO? 'Chernobyl', arguably the best mini-series ever.
#4. Pedro Pascal: The dude is a wagon. In good or bad projects, he has always killed it. Plus, you'd be hard pressed to find a character more like Joel than the Mandalorian.
This trailer confirmed a lot about what excited me about this. The production value looks great, Pascal looks perfect as Joel and you can literally feel the care put into this from Druckmann. It feels loyal to the game and not like a cheap knockoff meant to cash in on an IP.
This is now my #1 most anticipated series and I think it should be yours too.
