COLLEGE HOCKEY GAMEDAY is Coming to Bowling Green
A couple months ago I announced that Barstool (me) will be partnering with Everything College Hockey (ECH) for a College Hockey Gameday video. After 2 months of trying to figure out how the hell I go about doing something like this, we are finally able to announce that we will be doing our video for a series between Michigan State & Bowling Green State University.
In my opinion, ECH covers college hockey better than anyone. They are definitely the only brand that covers it in what I would call a "Barstool type of way". They have a weekly podcast where they land interviews with top players and coaches all around the league. They put in a shit load of work, on top of having full time jobs outside of ECH. They put out genuinely good and interesting content. I've always thought that they deserved more publicity, and I'm extremely excited to be working with them.
Here is an interview with Minnesota's Matthew Knies, one of the top prospects in the country. This from ECH's podcast "Pucks in Deep"
We're going to be doing a lot of things for this video. Bowling Green in Michigan State have a home-home series (Oct 7-8). Friday night (10/7) at Michigan State, Saturday night (10/8) at Bowling Green. We will be in attendance on Friday night, but the majority of the video will be filmed on Saturday, as we've been granted full access to Bowling Green's locker room, morning skate, warmup, etc. On top of hanging out with the team and filming behind the scenes, ECH will be putting on a live show at Liquid, a college bar in Bowling Green. I will be in attendance to cover the event and have some drinks with people from 3-6 PM.
We hope to eventually do these College Hockey Gameday videos at different schools across the country. To be perfectly transparent, we chose Bowling Green because I have connections there. I grew up in Bowling Green and I went to college there. My younger brother played on the Bowling Green Falcon hockey team, and I have good relationships with their coaches and players. But we want to do this with other teams as well.
We're funding this whole video ourselves (with the help of Bowling Green & Liquid). We see this as an opportunity to prove to Barstool that college hockey is something that is worth them getting behind. If we knock this out of the park, then maybe next video we'll get some more resources, and we'll be able to start doing this at other schools. This is something I have never done before, so for this first video, it makes sense to go somewhere we are already comfortable.
Now more than ever, the top hockey prospects are electing to play college hockey. I think now is the perfect time to start covering it for real. I can't tell you how excited I am to be doing this.
Here are some examples of videos ECH has made in the past, to give you an idea of what you can expect from us.
