"I'm very proud to say that this one is fantastic. […] Indiana Jones movies are about mystery and adventure, but they're also about heart. And I'm…really really happy that we have a really human story to tell, as well as a movie that will kick your ass."

COME ON!! We still have to wait until June 30 of next year to see the newest Indiana Jones movie, but from the sounds of it, the last entry in the blockbuster franchise starring Harrison Ford is about to send Indy off with a bang.

If you think this is just lip service or whatever, bear in mind that this is the same Harrison Ford who insisted Han Solo get killed off in Star Wars for many, many years. He has one of the driest senses of humor of any public figure ever, and seems either perpetually uncomfortable, unhappy to be there or short, sweet and to the point when he's making the rounds at press tours or conventions. For him to be this worked up about Indiana Jones 5 has me PUMPED even so far out from the release date!!

Lucky fans at the D23 expo on Saturday got to see the first teaser trailer, which will not be released publicly. Somethign tells me this will be well worth the wait. If you've soured on Indiana Jones after the last movie, well, Ford's reaction suggests Indy 5 will redeem Kingdom of the Crystal Skull and then some.

Co-written and directed by James Mangold, whose recent works include the excellent Logan and (hehe) Ford v Ferrari, it's clear that Harrison Ford believes in this movie a lot. As he should. Mangold is one of the best directors working today and this production was beset with so many delays that, if you have a visionary like Mangold at the helm and a famously selective star in Ford this eager to sign up, you gotta think the story is something special.

Mangold added that original Indy masterminds George Lucas and Steven Spielberg were involved along with, yes, GOAT composer John Williams.

Plot details have been kept under wraps. Not gonna speculate on what may or may not be true about alleged leaks. Ford also made a point to shout out Phoebe Waller-Bridge for her work in the film, and the stacked supporting cast features Mads Mikkelsen and Antonio Banderas among others.

Is this your most anticipated movie for 2023? Should be a hell of a summer at movie theaters in any event. Morbidly curious about The Flash still, which releases only a week before Indy 5. In July we'll have the next Mission: Impossible entry along with Christopher Nolan's latest flick, Oppenheimer.
