The Backyard Brawl Was An ELITE Start To College Football Season
Holy shit, the Backyard Brawl rocked. Everything about that game was what’s great about college football.
You could feel the hate in the air. Neither Pitt nor West Virginia ever led by more than seven points. The two just kept trading blows in front of a raucous crowd that drank whatever Heinz Field is called now out of beer.
The Mountaineers had a 4th and short in Pitt territory with a little more than 6:00 left in the game when Neal Brown decided to take a delay of game and punt. Pitt took the ball down the field and tied the game on a great catch and run from Barstool Athlete Israel Abanikanda before intercepting JT Daniels and taking it back for another score on the next play from scrimmage, which would turn out to be the game-winning touchdown.
This rivalry should never take another hiatus again. I want these teams playing every season because that game was perfect and you could tell it meant something to everyone in the building.
What a start to college football season. We’re back, baby.
