Our Guy Max Homa Took A Flamethrower To East Lake, Firing An 8-Under 62 For The Tour Championship's Lowest Round In 15 Years

Friend of PMT, Twitter swing roaster and golf-balling extraordinaire Max Homa went OFF in the second round of the Tour Championship on Friday. You know how you cap your round in style? By stiffing a damn 232-yard bomb of an approach at the par-5 last to three feet, and making easy work of the eagle putt. That's worth its own standalone highlight.

Max was obviously sandbagging the entire season and saving his best for last. You know that's true because he's still striving to improve even after putting together such a sparkling scorecard.

In case you weren't aware, Big Cat put up a hell of a number at Shinnecock Hills on Long Island a while back. Homa was man enough to recognize East Lake is small potatoes compared to a venue that's played host to five U.S. Opens. Still, a brilliant round to be sure.

I mean with all the good vibes Blake Griffin was bringing to Atlanta, we should've known something special was in store for today.

The secret sauce to Homa's round? For all his loquaciousness on social media and between the ropes when a hot mic is anywhere near, turns out giving your ball the silent treatment more often than not did the trick on this particular occasion.

Homa may have just keyed into something to unlock a new level to his game. Rest of the Tour better have their head on a swivel.

Do I care that Scottie Scheffler is actually winning? I straight-up wouldn't if he wasn't fighting through some brutal, literal ass-related ailment. As someone who's personally endured serious hardship to that end, I can at least respect Scheffler for coming clean and revealing the pain he's dealt with, as covered by Banks in superb detail yesterday.

But Scottie, green jacket and multiple wins this season and all, is still kinda boring. I don't know. Homa is out here mounting a furious rally to make Barstool proud, and I'm here for all of it.

Necessary few-sentence aside: Tour Championship Assassin Xander Schauffele is crushing it once again. Schauffele closed with an eagle for a 7-under 63 to cut Scheffler's lead to two strokes entering the weekend. Banks pushed Schauffele hard before the FedEx Cup finale began, so uh…BUMP:

I'll say it again: if you haven't been tailing Banks on his picks all season, the man has been hitting winners left and right, so (responsibly, if you choose to bet) get your shit together.

Anyway, salute to you, Max Homa. Hell of a round and a hell of an impression to make in one's Tour Championship debut regardless of what happens from here on in.
