Russell Westbrook Does Not Appear To Be Too Bothered By The Lakers Adding Patrick Beverley
After the late night Woj bomb informed us that the Lakers had traded for Patrick Beverley, naturally all of our collective minds probably went to the same place.
These two have a rather public beef that dates back years, but it seems like everyone is willing to put that behind them for the sake of potentially making the play in tournament
Of course Pat Bev is going to be on his best behavior, he's the new guy. You can't come in and immediately be a gigantic asshole around your new coworkers. We've all been the new guy at the office before. You're over the top nice, you say yes to everything and you do your best to not get in the way of what's already in motion.
So now that we know Pat Bev is willing to put everything behind him, what about Russ? How does he feel about this whole thing?
That guy doesn't look too bothered to me! Now this could be for a couple reasons
1. Russ knows he's not going to be a Laker for much longer
2. He's willing to be a good teammate and squash his beef with Pat Bev
3. He's just jamming out in his car loving his life knowing he's making $47M this year to a fire song
My heart wants it to be #1, but it's most likely #3. I'm just not sure I see a path to a Westbrook trade right now after those rumors that he was going to be part of a 3 teamer with the Jazz and Knicks have died. On some level you have to respect Westbrook's ability to mostly be unbothered by all the drama that seems to follow him wherever he plays. For whatever reason he's the one that gets blamed for why the Lakers had such a dogshit season. It's kind of weird. Yeah he wasn't great but their issues were way bigger than Russell Westbrook playing like Russell Westbrook. Their roster construction was shit which last time I checked is not his fault.
I guess that's the beauty of making $40M a year. People can say whatever they want about you but at the end of the day, that direct deposit still hits. If Westbrook's Lakers run is over, he'll find another team. Someone will believe that their system and their culture will be the right mix to actually maximize his talents. Just watch that video again, does that seem like a guy who is even remotely bothered right now? Must be nice.
