End Of An Era: According To Brian Windhorst, His Relationship With LeBron Is Pretty Much Dead

Well like they always say, all good things must come to an end. Some might have thought the Windy/LeBron relationship would last a lifetime given how things started, but if you hear Windhorst explain things, that relationship is pretty much dead. Let us all pay our respects with a moment of silence

…..

………..

……………..

If you ask me, this is probably the best thing to ever happen to Windy. Sure he may have built his entire life to start his career based on that relationship with LeBron, but for years you really couldn't take anything else he reported all that seriously because he had this reputation that he was just LeBron's mouthpiece in the media. That had to be pretty frustrating for him I would imagine. Now? Windy might be the only NBA source you can trust. In a summer where Woj/Shams seem to be doing their best to push certain narratives that a front office wants out there, Windy has been giving us fans the real intel. Of course it all started with the Rudy Gobert trade

He then had the pretty important nugget in the BOS/BKN discussions around KD/Jaylen and when they took place, something that neither Shams or Woj reported when they first leaked that story

that was then confirmed a few weeks later that their conversations were around the time Summer League started.

Then he was all over the Ayton offer sheet with IND

which happened, only the Suns decided to match it.

Basically, he's been on a roll this entire summer and has become more and more credible with each bit of reporting he's done. That's why when you see his latest nugget about Kyrie

I can't help but believe that as well. Maybe that's why you're hearing that the Nets are still not interested in trading him to the Lakers for Westbrook even though LA appears to be willing to include the 2027 and 2029 first round picks just to unload Russ. That could be a dangerous game to play with a guy who has no problem leaving a franchise in free agency the first chance he can, but that's the Nets problem to deal with, not Windy's.

If you asked me during the Windy/LeBron heyday if I felt that one day Windy would actually turn out to be one of the more informed and accurate NBA media guys there's no way I would say yes. For years all you could bank on was anything he said about LeBron. it doesn't sound like there's any bad blood between the two now in 2022, and I doubt Windy even cares that he doesn't talk to LeBron anymore. He's somehow turned into one of the talking heads you can trust in this age of endless rumors and speculation.

I guess this is all just part of growing up. We all have friends that we were close with 10 years ago that you no longer talk to and basically don't have a relationship with anymore. I guess that's true for NBA superstars and media guys as well. Who knew.
