BREAKING: The Yankees Have Traded For All Star Outfielder Andrew Benintendi
Well, Brian Cashman certainly knows how to appease the Bronx faithful right after two gross losses to the Mets. Andrew Benintendi welcome to the New York Yankees. This man is the perfect bat for the lineup right now while the team is in a bit of a rut. Left handed, high contact, high average, high on base, and he plays very good defense. .321/.389.399 with an OPS+ of 124 in 92 games this year. He's not the big answer to the Yankees problems, but he's definitely part of the solution. Definitely gonna take a few games to get used to him in pinstripes after his time in Boston, but I'm stoked.
For all intents and purposes this spells the end of Joey Gallo in New York. In a perfect world he's DFA'd in the morning to free up the roster spot needed for Benny. I think the entire fanbase has had enough of that guy getting any amount of at bats for this team. Good riddance. This also allows Giancarlo to DH more when he comes off the IL. Have to imagine the plan the rest of the way will be to keep him off the field and keep his health in check.
For anyone wondering the compensation…
3 top 30 guys in the org who might as well be made up people. None of those guys are anywhere close to top tier chips you'd need to acquire a Luis Castillo who I think is still their number one target.
And for the unvaccinated part of Benintendi's deal, that's gonna change with a contending environment. No need to worry about any games up in Toronto.
Even better, the Royals are on their way to New York as we speak, hand delivering our newest piece. Love that.
Again, this is just the start. With the Yankees' struggles over the last few weeks you have to imagine Cashman is going to have to really add to this roster. You need Luis Castillo and you need one or two relievers. You have the prospects use them. This is a great start.
