Daniel Jones Can Make A Giant Leap In A Make Or Break 2022

Yesterday I went on Picks Central to talk NFC Futures. The Giants fans in there, Big Ev & Rico were downtrodden. Ev called this the worst few years in Giants history. It's hard to disagree as they've been very bad ever since the infamous boat pic. And I wanted to provide my friends some hope, because I believe in Daniel Jones. Jones is now being coached by Brian Daboll who was Josh Allen's Offensive Coordinator for four years in Buffalo.

I'm getting ripped for this, but I feel like I put a healthy amount of disclaimers in the rant. Here's what I was trying to convey:

Just looking at physical profiles and early career numbers:

Josh Allen:

6’5” 237 lbs.

4.76 40-yard dash

First two years (27 starts): 30 TDs 21 INTs 56% completion percentage

1,141 rushing yards on 5.8 YPC

Daniel Jones:

6’5” 221 lbs.

4.81 40-yard dash

First three years (37 starts): 45 TDs 29 INTs 63% completion percentage

1,000 rushing yards on 5.8 YPC

Now I'm not saying that Daniel Jones after three years is Josh Allen after two years. Not by a long shot. My point is that if you lined up all the physical profiles of starting QBs in the NFL, that Jones is rather close to Allen. He doesn't have as strong of an arm, he's not as big or fast, and he doesn't process information as quickly.

But people forget that while Josh Allen was verrryyyy shaky his first two seasons before he broke out in Year 3:

And that's not a knock on Allen. I think he's the best Quarterback in football right now. Just pointing out not everyone steps on an NFL field and is incredible immediately.

Daniel Jones did though. I was at his first career start and he lit the place up.

And that's just one game, but I've been on the Daniel Jones train for awhile.

When I saw what he can do in person, I was even more impressed. The guy had wheels.

He had a good arm and threw with anticipation into tight windows.

And hand up, he has been downright bad the past two seasons. He'll be associated most with this unfortunately gaf:

But there have been a lot of mistakes. A lot of them of the really ugly variety:

But my point is that if I was a Giants fan, I would be hopeful. The guy has the tools to be good. You've seen him be good. And now you bring in a guy who helped turn another remarkable young QB full of talent who hadn't put it all together as your Head Coach. Can Daniel Jones turn it all around this season and be a Superstar? I'm not exactly betting on that, but I do think he has potential to be a very good Quarterback. Josh Allen had two seasons under Brian Daboll before becoming elite and Jones will not have that luxury. With the Giants declining his 5th year option, this is a make or break year for him. Along with Ev, Rico, and all other Giants fans, I'm excited to see how it goes.
