Chelsea Clinton Says She No Longer Likes Kanye West And Deleted All Of His Music Because "Of The Way He Treats Women" And Who Wants To Tell Her About The Giant Elephant In The Room?
Billboard - Chelsea Clinton is taking sides. The former first daughter reveals in a new interview for Entertainment Weekly’s digital cover story which artists she likes to listen to while running — and it’s no longer Kanye West.
“I’ve had to let go of Kanye, because it’s just, I can’t,” she told the publication. “Just the way that he has treated Kim Kardashian, the way that he has talked about women is unconscionable to me. That was some of my favorite running music, and I have removed it from my library.”
With Clinton siding with Kardashian and banishing Ye from her playlist, whose tunes are still pumping through her headphones? Clinton, who just finished her first marathon last year, told EW that there are two artists she’s particularly fond of listening to while getting her adrenaline pumping. “If I’m on a dedicated running trail, then I’m definitely listening to hip-hop while I’m running: I listen to a lot of Jay-Z. I listen to a lot of old-school Beyonce,” she shared. “I really — maybe this is dating me — but I really like the stuff from the mid ’90s to, like, the late 2000s.”
But that’s not to say she’s not into current hip-hop. “I really like Megan Thee Stallion, and I also do love Cardi B,” Clinton said. “And I also love when Cardi B sings on other songs.”
Man oh freaking man. Where to begin with this one...
Let's start with the enormous elephant in the room here shall we?
Chelsea Clinton runs?!?
I had no fucking idea!
So do I.
I used to absolutely hate it. Having to partake in The Presidential Physical Fitness Test every year in gym class (is this even still a thing? I feel like fat kids probably had this cancelled because they were triggered? Maybe I'm wrong?) was beyond dreadful.
Having to run a mile in under 8 minutes (I believe?) was torture for a kid who was 5'2" with stubby legs, until senior year, and a heart condition he didn't know about.
Running sucked. So I thought.
Then a few years ago my metabolism came to a screeching halt and there was no chance I was giving up eating the wonderful foods I loved so I had to suck it up and learn to enjoy it. Which I did after a few months. Now I run all the time. Just like my girl Chelsea!
As for the part about Kanye West- what a conundrum.
I guess I can see her point here. She makes a strong one. After all, she did go to Stanford.
When you're raised in a family where the patriarch treats the matriarch with the utmost reverence and regard, I can see why somebody like Kanye West, a man who never hid his displeasure with the mother of his children letting a certified WEIRDO around his kids, would upset you so much. Or calling out said weirdo for being a snake in the grass, former friend, who pounced on his vulnerable wife like a hyena does an injured impala, taking advantage of her in troubled times.
When you're raised by role models such as Bill and Hillary, how can you blame Chelsea for feeling this way?
Short answer is you can't.
And speaking of role models, I think Chelsea's interview has swayed me now.
It's news to nobody around here what a big fan of Kanye I am. But now she has me reconsidering. The guy hasn't dropped so much as a single "s" word on like 3 albums now. Never mind an "f" word. But he's pretty nuts on social media so fuck him.
Time to clear some space on my old iTunes library and move in some real scholars and artists like Chelsea's faves Cardi B and Meghan Thee Stallion.
p.s. - Chief blogged this already but this really can't get enough play. Slick Willy and Dr. Ruth sitting together at The U.S. Open of all places giggling like school kids who found a "Birds and The Bees" illustration book is peak simulation manipulation. If you still think we're not in one you're delusional.
p.p.s.- talk about cutting off your nose to spite your face. ditching these songs from your jogging playlist isn't hurting anybody but yourself babe
