Rate These Toasted Hamburger Buns

God invented summer so we could grill up a ton of hamburgers and hot dogs. Can you crush some burgers during the rest of the year outside of summer? Sure can, just ask Glenny Balls. But it's never nearly as satisfying as one cooked in the great outdoors while you're pounding some ice cold Miller Lites in the process.

But a crucial part to any great burger starts at the foundation with a great toast on the buns. You don't want to cheat yourself by simply tossing a burger straight from the grill onto a soft bun straight out of the package. The difference between ordinary and extraordinary is that little "extra".

Perfectly golden brown. Maybe took them just a bit too far around the edges, but that's why they say the toast game is a game of inches. These were mere seconds away from sheer perfection. I'm more of a feel toaster than anything. No timer, no temperature, no nothing. I just try to become one with the toast. Let the toast talk to me and tell me exactly when she's ready.

Plenty of people say that perfect toast is an unattainable goal. That it's a mythological result. But my promise to you all is that I won't stop until I reach the top of that toast mountain. I think I came pretty damn close last night. I'd call it 4.8/5 Balls.

P.S. -- It's a Monday in the midst of the dog days of summer. Yes, you are going to get blogs about toasted hamburger buns.

P.P.S. -- If you're looking for another super easy way to up your burger game, whip up a batch of cheater aioli. Take some mayonnaise, stir in a few minced up cloves of garlic, some some lemon juice, whisk it all together and now you just added a whole new level of kick ass flavor to your meal.
