Olivia Wilde Gets Served Legal Custody Papers From Jason Sudeikis Literally In The Middle Of Presenting Her New Movie On Stage At CinemaCon

This is a photograph of the beautiful and successful Olivia Wilde presenting her new movie "Don't Worry Darling" at CinemaCon last night.  That gigantic manila envelope that she's holding is not her notes, her talking points, or a list of people who financed the movie that she can't forget to thank —all reasonable guesses, but incorrect. 

DEADLINE — EXCLUSIVE: Like something out of a hackneyed Hollywood plot, the mysterious envelope picked up by Don’t Worry Darling director and star Olivia Wilde during her CinemaCon presentation last night for the New Line movie were legal documents from Ted Lasso star Jason Sudeikis.

It is our understanding that the manila envelope, marked personal and confidential, which was placed on stage, were custody papers from the Primetime Emmy winner.

The New York Post describes her reaction in real-time: 

She was handed a manilla envelope from a woman who slid it on stage in the middle of the presentation, asking her: “This is for me?”

After opening the documents, Wilde carried on without blinking — and showed the trailer of the film she directed, starring her boyfriend Harry Styles and Florence Pugh, which was greeted with huge applause from the crowd.

I don't know if I'm just projecting my own feelings on society, but I'm pretty sure Jason Sudeikis is pretty much universally beloved. Or at least I've never heard any bad stories about him — not even a rumor, and I've spent more time digging around the internet for rumors about celebrities than most. Granted I may have self-censored a bit in the wake of the split with Olivia because of how traumatic the news was — how could it not shake your very belief in love to its core? — but as far as I know, there's been a general dearth of the kind of "he-said, she-said" dirt that comes with most celebrity breakups, like, for example…. I don't know, so many to choose from, I'll just pick one at random — Johnny Depp and Amber Heard. Nothing like that, to my knowledge — no fingers severed or bedding smeared with human feces, et cetera.  Just two adults growing apart and going their separate ways.

So either Sudeikis is sick and tired of people thinking he's such a good guy, got together with this team, and came up with the fastest, most effective way of making everyone think he's a total dick…or I'm inclined to believe his denial:

Olivia Wilde was stunned to be served custody papers by ex Jason Sudeikis while onstage at CinemaCon Tuesday night.

The “Ted Lasso” star’s lawyers hired a process server to hand crucial documents over to Wilde concerning their two young children.

But Wilde was left shocked when the server tracked her down to Caesars Palace’s in Las Vegas Tuesday night, where she was promoting her new movie, “Don’t Worry Darling.”

However, sources tell Page Six that Sudeikis had no knowledge of the plans — and would “never condone” Wilde being served in such an “inappropriate manner.”

“Mr. Sudeikis had no prior knowledge of the time or place that the envelope would have been delivered as this would solely be up to the process service company involved and he would never condone her being served in such an inappropriate manner.”

You never know with these process servers. Everybody's heard stories of the lengths those crazy fuckers will go to in order to get a court summons in front of their target's face — extensive recon work, spying, disguises, covert tactics that would make the CIA jealous. Serving someone while they're in the middle of premiering the movie they directed in front of an entire convention of people is if anything kind of the path of least resistance.  So unless Sudeikis specifically requested to pay extra for the "butcher my reputation" service, it's not that hard to believe he didn't know. But I guess we'll see if the general public — famously known for keeping a cool and level head when sharing their well-reasoned and rational opinions on social media, especially when it comes to Hollywood celebrities — agrees.
