Jay Wright Retired 6 Days Ago And Thanks To One Quote We're Already Getting People Freaking Out About Him Coaching In The NBA 'Soon'

[ESPN] - Appearing Tuesday on ESPN's Keyshawn, JWill & Max, Wright said he's not looking to coach right now, but added "I'd be lying" if he said he hadn't thought about coaching in the NBA.

"Not right now. That was something I always thought about," Wright said of his NBA ambitions. "My experience with the Olympics kind of scratched that itch. … I kind of feel like I did it a little bit. And I loved coaching those guys."

Wright was part of San Antonio Spurs coach Gregg Popovich's gold-medal-winning Team USA staff, a group that also included Golden State Warriors coach Steve Kerr and Boston Celtics coach Ime Udoka.

"Right now I definitely need a break," Wright said Tuesday. "Right now I'm looking forward to this [special assistant] position at Villanova. But honestly, down the road, I'd be lying -- I don't know what I'm going to feel like."

And that quote right there sent a shit ton of people today into a Jay Wright will be coaching in the NBA rabbit hole. Sure, I get it. He 'leaves the door open.' Of course he does. He's 60 years old. Coaches rarely retire that young. He's been rumored for the Sixers job since about, I don't know, 2009. And now that he retired SIX days ago from Nova, everyone is just waiting for him to decide to have a change of heart.

I wouldn't be surprised if he coaches in the NBA at some point. I mean coaches don't know what to do when they retire. Sure they can enjoy a long TV career, but those are typically coaches who get fired from their last spot. Not Hall of Fame coaches who made a Final Four and then shockingly retired.

I still think we should try to make Jay Wright Team USA head coach like soccer. Instead of rotating in K then Pop and now Kerr, just let Wright run it. He can still enjoy retirement while having the itch. Plus, we'd still likely win no matter who is coach.

But get ready. Sixers blow a 3-0 lead, Doc runs to the Lakers and immediately it's going to be 'Jay Wright to the Sixers.' It's going to happen every single day until Jay Wright coaches the Sixers or the Sixers win a title. I just love that he left the door open. Great way to keep your name in the news even if you didn't mean to. Even better is his Dwight Schrute-esque role at Nova now:

Never forget though. Jay Wright to the Knicks:
