Michael Conforto Underwent Shoulder Surgery And Will Miss The Entire 2022 Season
Well that fucking sucks. Michael Conforto went from turning down a $100 million contract from the Mets to the Long Island Ducks calling about his availability for the 2022 season to a full blown Cuncel da Conforto in a year's time. Devastating.
Now I want to take Jon Heyman at his word when he says this injury happened when Conforto was working out because Heyman is a wonderful Mets beat reporter that keeps us up to date on the inner-workings of the Amazins on a daily basis. Jon covered Uncle Stevie's entire offseason shopping spree with the fire and vigor not seen since Woodward and Bernstein were grinding out the Watergate story.
However, when your info about a Scott Boras client comes from Scott Boras himself, I tend to take it with the tiniest grain of salt in the universe. Especially if the Mayor of Scoop City says that injury happened in a completely different fashion.
Nonetheless, here's to hoping Conforto fully recovers and can get back some of the money he missed between last season's slump and this "workout" injury. He was never a superstar in Queens but he was one hell of a hitter and seemed like an even better guy. I also can't believe that this injury didn't happen AFTER the Mets locked him up to a $100+ million deal, which would've been peak Mets.
