I Most Certainly Do Not Need To Hear JJ Redicks' Bob Cousy Slander On Today Of All Days

Listen, I love JJ Redick as a media guy. I think he's fantastic on TV and his podcast is almost always a must listen for me regardless of what guest he has on. I value his insight, you can tell he actually watches basketball and does his research to help create well informed opinions. It's pretty much everything you should want from NBA media in 2022.

But I cannot have this Bob Cousy slander. Not today. Not when I'm trying to do my best to not lose my goddamn mind waiting for tonight's Game 2 tip off. I'm emotional, I'm easily triggered and usually, when you hear someone give the "they were being guarded by plumbers and firemen" bullshit it's more often than not salty Lakers fans trying to make it seem like they actually have the same amount of championships as the Celtics (they don't FYI, they have 13. Deal with it). So I have to say, I am disappointed in JJ here. The whole era debate is tiring and stupid. People in 2022 love to discredit almost everything that happened in the NBA before they were born. We see the highlights and it looks like your average pick up run if none of the good players were allowed to play. I get it. It's not exactly rocket science to suggest that an elite NBA player in 2022 would dominate the NBA in the 60s. Who cares?

But it's just as annoying the other way too. Mad Dog's entire point was just as stupid. You don't need to discredit the current NBA talent either. Classic old man behavior that we see all the time. The "back in my day" bullshit is so stupid but old people can't help themselves. Players in 2022 are way more skilled, way better athletes, have way better training and resources, it's not even really up for debate. That doesn't mean what the old timers did wasn't impressive for their time period though and that deserves some respect on some level. There probably is no Kyrie without the play of Cousy and Pistol Pete and Isiah Thomas who helped lay the foundation.

All I'm saying is I don't need to hear this bullshit right now. I have bigger fish to fry like wondering how on earth the Celts are going to survive a motivated Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving. I'm worried about their late game execution. I'm worried about giving back homecourt and putting themselves in a bit of a pickle. So please, stop taking shots at Celts legends and let me focus on what matters which is going up 2-0 tonight.
