The 2022 Grammy's Recap - Silk Sonic Steals The Show, Dua Lipa & Meghan The Stallion Flaunt It, Cardi B Went On A Twitter Tirade And Deleted App, Nas Killed It, And Louis C.K. Canceled His Cancellation Winning a Grammy And Triggering Backlash

Billboard - Between them, Silk Sonic and Tony Bennett rewrote the Grammy record book at the 64th annual Grammy Awards on Sunday (April 3). A lot of other artists, including Kanye West, Foo Fighters and St. Vincent, also made Grammy history this year, but we’ve got to start with the throwback R&B duo and the 95-year-old legend.

Silk Sonic’s “Leave the Door Open” won in all four categories in which it was nominated – record of the year, song of the year, best R&B song and best R&B performance.

Kanye West pulled into a tie with Jay-Z for the most Grammy wins by a rapper (24 each). West won melodic rap performance for “Hurricane” (featuring The Weeknd & Lil Baby) and best rap song for “Jail,” which upped his total from 22 to 24. Jay-Z shared in the latter award, which upped his total from 23 to 24.

Foo Fighters won three Grammys – best rock album for Medicine at Midnight and best rock performance and best rock song for “Waiting on a War.” The Foos are the first act to win best rock album five times. No one else has won in the category more than twice. The awards were presented nine days after the death of the band’s drummer, Taylor Hawkins. Sadly, if the awards had been presented as scheduled on Jan. 31, he would have lived to receive them.

St. Vincent became the first female solo artist to win best alternative music album twice. She won for Daddy’s Home seven years after winning for St. Vincent. This is the second year in a row that a female solo artist has won this award. Fiona Apple won last year for Fetch the Bolt Cutters. This is the first time in Grammy history that female solo artists have won back-to-back in this historically male-dominated category.

Chris Stapleton became the first solo artist to win best country album three times. He won for Starting Over. The only other act to win more than twice is The Chicks, with four wins. Stapleton also became the first three-time winner for best country solo performance (for “You Should Probably Leave”). He had been in a tie with two-time category champ Carrie Underwood.

Olivia Rodrigo, who is 19 years and one month old, is the third-youngest artist ever to win best new artist. She trails LeAnn Rimes, who was 14 years and six months old when she won, and Eilish, who was 18 years and one month old. (Christina Aguilera was 19 years and two months old when she won.)

“Family Ties” by Baby Keem, featuring his cousin, Kendrick Lamar, won best rap performance. It’s Lamar’s record-extending fifth win in the category.

To think Keem was a relative unknown a little over a year ago. Then produces one of the better hip hop albums to come out lately with the help of his cousin, the one and only Kendrick Lamar, and now he's on stage accepting a Grammy for Best Rap Performance. Crazy

Summer of Soul won best music film one week after winning an Oscar for documentary (feature). It’s just the second film to win both awards, following 20 Feet From Stardom. Questlove directed Summer of Soul. David Dinerstein, Robert Fyvolent and Joseph Patel co-produced it.

Jack Antonoff became the first former best new artist winner to go on to win producer of the year (non-classical). Antonoff won best new artist nine years ago as a member of the pop trio fun.

D’Mile became the first songwriter in Grammy history to win song of the year two years running. He won last year for “I Can’t Breathe,” which he co-wrote with H.E.R. and Tiara Thomas. He won this year for “Leave the Door Open,” which he co-wrote with Mars, Anderson .Paak and Christopher Brody Brown. This is also the second win in the category for Mars and Brown, who were among the co-writers of “That’s What I Like,” which won four years ago.

(Fun fact - “Leave the Door Open” is just the third song in Grammy history to win both song of the year and best R&B song. The first two were Alicia Keys’ “Fallin’” and Mars’ “That’s What I Like.”)

Silk Sonic stole the show last night.

From their show-opening performance -

To their two grammy wins.

When Paak and Mars won, it was perhaps the best part of the entire night.

They both appeared shocked, and then broke into a choreographed boogie with Paak delivering one of the funnier acceptance speeches in memory.

Runner up may have been when Dua Lipa and Megan Thee Stallion came out to present wearing matching Versace dresses

The show went off without a hitch. Which had to have been a relief to organizers and producers who were on edge after last week's Oscar's debacle. Banning Kanye West from performing made many nervous, but Ye no-showed.

As did Cardi B, which ignited a giant social media shitstorm that resulted in her going off on trolls and her fans and then deleting her account.

Fox News - On Sunday, the rapper skipped the 2022 Grammys at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas. During the ceremony, the 29-year-old, whose birth name is Belcalis Marlenis Almánzar, slammed trolls on Twitter who brought up her children over her decision to not attend.

"I’m deleting my twitter but On God I hate this f–kin dumbass fan base," Cardi fired back. "You got the slow dumbasses dragging my kids all cause y’all though [sic] I was going to the Grammys and I didn’t the f–k ? When the f–k I hinted I was going ? just f–kin stupid I can’t I needs to protect myself."

One critic tweeted, "I bet yo son wouldnt like for you to be on your ass while teasing us fans and not ever dropping music." The star quickly replied, "I hope your moms die."

Another critic went as far as to allege that the "WAP" performer’s child was autistic.

"@iamcardib do you kiss your @utistic child with that mouth?" the troll tweeted.

"None of my kids are autistic," Cardi replied. "Don’t project wat u got on my kids the f–k."

In a separate tweet, she labeled her haters "so f---king dumb."

"SUCK MY D—K," she concluded before deleting her account.

The star later went live on Instagram to address what some called her "disgusting behavior."

"Why would I show up for one nomination?" she explained. "If you bring up my son, I wish the worst on you. I hate you."

Just a trash human whose husband/baby daddy/whatever helps her make club and strip club anthems being a trash human. If you're surprised by this I don't know what to tell you. This was as predictable as the sun rising this morning.

As was Louis C.K. setting off another powder keg of controversy for his win for Best Comedy Album.

NPR - Louis C.K. brought home a Grammy on Sunday despite having admitted to sexual misconduct and subsequently enduring almost five years in professional comedy purgatory.

C.K.'s album, Sincerely Louis C.K., beat out five other nominees — including Lewis Black, Kevin Hart and Chelsea Handler — for best comedy album at the 64th Grammy Awards. The comeback album was his first release since the 54-year-old was accused of masturbating in front of multiple female colleagues in November 2017.

Twitter users lashed out almost immediately following the Recording Academy's announcement, many of whom pointed out the irony that C.K.'s winning album made light of the very misconduct that derailed his career years ago.

Listen lady, at the end of the day art is art. Sucks but it's true. The Oscars awarded a pedophile with the highest award in the land. We make criminals, wife beaters, child abusers, and drug dealers millionaires because we like their work. Trying to weed out certain people out of this group is basically splitting hairs at this point.

I am in absolutely no way defending Louis C.K.. Guy is a creep show and a half. But I know the difference between comedy and real life.

The BTS guys were all over the trim everywhere last night.

And Doja Cat (who may be retired I think?) looked pretty decent in like 3 different outfits throughout the night-

Lil Nas X performed some elaborate set with Jack Harlow that was very underwhelming.

Chris Stapleton did what Chris Stapleton does and crushed it as always.

One of the dumber moments from the evening was CBS promoting Billy Strings as a performer and then having him play out to a commercial for 15 seconds, and then coming back from commercial to hear the last 10 seconds of his "performance".

I've been hearing so much about this guy I was looking forward to seeing him get his chance on the Grammy stage and that's how they do him?

Brutal.

Trevor Noah, who hosted, was largely forgettable. Which I guess is exactly what CBS was hoping for in light of recent events.

Bieber had the whole crowd going with his performance of "Peaches". After a strange piano intro, the curtain lifted to showcase Daniel Caesar and Giveon and the song kicked in.

But THE performance of the night went to Nas and his medley of hits.

It's been so long since hearing real hip hop on a grand stage like this.

Album of the Year went to Jon Batiste, who had the most nominations this year, at 11,  for “We Are.” In his acceptance speech, he said that making music is “more than entertainment for me — it’s a spiritual practice”

His performance was also pretty awesome.

All in all, it was a forgettable Grammy Awards and I should have watched Wrestlemania. Or at least went side by side tvs.
