It's A Sad Day As Legendary Kansas City BBQ Spot Arthur Bryant's Is Blatantly Asking Customers To Not Order The Brisket Due To Soaring Prices
KMBC- Higher gasoline and food prices have put restaurants in painful positions.
Current prices at Arthur Bryant's Barbeque are $21.95 for a pound of brisket, $17 for a burnt ends sandwich and $18 for a brisket sandwich. The flow of customers at Arthur Bryant's is steady but the prices are not. They've about doubled in the last year.
The owner said it's painful to pass it on, but he said he doesn't have much of a choice.
"I wanted the customer to know that we're not happy about what we have to do. We just aren't," said Jerry Rauschelbach, owner of Arthur Bryant's.
A sign now greets customers telling them to "order anything besides the brisket or burnt ends." The prices "we are charging are ridiculously high" because "the prices we are paying are ridiculously high."
DUDE! This is a sad, sad day. I know prices on, quite literally everything, has been soaring up recently in this wonderful country we like to call United States of America. All I hear about is the goddamn gas going up. Legitimately the cold cut prices at my local Italian deli are up. Hell my goddamn fruit that I purchase every weeknight (aka days I don't drink alcohol) are going up as well! It all sucks, though it's livable. You know what crosses the line though?
When they come at the mother fucking brisket. I don't know if there's anything more sacred in this country than a beautiful, meaty, tender, fall-apart brisket, and if we can't have that? Who the hell knows what else is going to happen? What's next? They come for ribs? They come for pulled pork? They come for the cornbread? If the brisket's already down anything can happen. That's like Luke Skywalker being the first domino to fall in the Star Wars crew.
You do just have to respect Arthur Bryant's though for coming out and straight up saying DO NOT order our brisket because of these absurd prices. Absolutely pimp move by them.
