National Treasure 3 Is NOT Happening According To Nic Cage And Disney Is To Blame

Cage wants to keep going with the indies. “I enjoy making movies like Pig and Leaving Las Vegas more than I enjoy making movies like National Treasure,” he says. He waves away suggestions that National Treasure 3 is happening, after I mention that Jerry Bruckheimer told me they were developing something. “When I talk about fair-weather friends in Hollywood, I'm not talking about Jerry. I'm talking about Disney,” he says. “They're like an ocean liner. Once they go in a certain direction, you've got to get a million tugboats to try to swivel it back around.”

The news about National Treasure 3 dropped back in the middle of 2020, and people were understandably pumped up. Say whatever you want about either movie, but they are undeniably some of the most entertaining adventure movies to come out over the past few decades. Cool twists, good action and awesome heists. What more do you want? Well, for starters, I want to know what was on page 47. That is the question a lot of us had after the semi-cliffhanger ending to 'Book of Secrets'. Unfortunately, it looks like Disney is too preoccupied making remakes of Turner & Hooch with Josh Peck along with a million other failed remakes.

What sad about this is how passionate Cage is as an actor about every project he does. If I've said it once, I've said it a million times. One of his most endearing qualities is that he will give 110% to every movie he is ever involved in. Doesn't matter if it is a massive blockbuster that fills his coffers or a small indie that pays him in Jiffy Lube coupons, you get the same level of commitment. So for Disney to understand this and realize how much of sensation he is(whether the love is real, irony-poisoned meme love, or both) and not give him a shot to close out the trilogy is absolutely fucked.

On the "plus side" for Disney, at least they have the national treasure series coming to Disney+ soon....

A Hispanic Latina-American lead character named Jess Morales, who is a 20-year-old DREAMer that sets off on an exploration to discover the mystery of her family history, and with the help of her friends seeks to recover historical lost treasure.

Look, there is just no point in making a national treasure property without Cage. That goes double for a watered-down zoomer series. Cage IS National Treasure and nothing Disney can do will change that.
