Joe Buck Is Reportedly Getting PAID To Join The Monday Night Football Booth With Troy Aikman
NY Post- Joe Buck is expected to leave Fox Sports for ESPN, where he will become the voice of “Monday Night Football,” The Post has learned. Buck, 52, has called the World Series for nearly a quarter century and was Fox’s play-by-player on six Super Bowls.
On Friday, Fox granted Buck permission to talk with ESPN, according to sources. A deal is expected to come to fruition shortly. With Fox, Buck had one-year at $11 million remaining on his contract. Fox, though, is letting him out early as a good gesture for his years of service to the company. He is expected to sign a contract in the five-year, $60-$75 million range with ESPN, according to sources.
My Initial Thought: Jeeeeeesus Christ that's a lot of money!
Troy Aikman: You're absolutely right, Clem!
So it looks like the good folks at the Channel Formerly Known As The Worldwide Leader In Sports realized they needed to overhaul their Monday Night Football booth after the Mannings made the original broadcast pretty much irrelevant (with a good amount of help by the guys that were in said booth). So now Joe Buck gets a fat stack of Mickey Mouse Money just like his partner to instantly bring that Fox Game Of The Week vibe to Monday Night Football, which is better than pretty much anything we've heard on MNF since Al Michaels and John Madden were throwing 98 on the black back in the day. As someone that enjoys watching a football game without having to mute the announcers, I am going to say this was one of those rare good moves by ESPN.
I know there has always been a good amount of Joe Buck slander on the internet, which I admittedly have partaken in since Joe Buck hasn't always been the most likable guy on the planet, not to mention he completely undersold the most incredible play I have ever seen in my life.
But there's no denying that Joe Buck has the epitome of a Big Game Voice that Monday Night Football deserves that is smoother like velvet mixed with peanut butter.
I also feel like Buck has become more likable as he's gotten older, partially because he has taken away a whole bunch of Man Cards on Pardon My Take over the years, who even made Marlins Man seem likable once upon a time, and partially because he seems to be less high strung than the guy that apologized for Randy Moss' DISGUSTING ACT of fake mooning Packers fans at Lambeau.
I guess all this means Joe Buck won't be calling playoff baseball games on Fox anymore, which is going to feel weird as hell. Say what you want to say about him as a football announcer, but that dude is the Voice of October for millions of people.
Yankees fans definitely didn't see that video coming in a football blog
Okay I think that's enough sucking off Joe Buck after he got more money than I'll ever see in my life. So here's Artie Lange absolutely burying Joe and pretty much killing his show during Episode 1 the blog balanced, as all things should be. Have a great weekend everybody!
