Watch: Creative Mode Ruined Fortnite And This Clip Is Exactly Why I Stopped Playing

If you watched this clip and immediately said, "What the fuck did I just watch?" - trust me, you're not alone.

Like the average dude between the ages of 18-25, I loved Fortnite when it first dropped. The cross platform was revolutionary, the Battle Royale couldn't have been smoother and winning a game was one of the most rewarding feelings. Most importantly, it brought everyone together like no other game before. 

Very similar to sports, I always say gaming is the great connector. Look around with what's going on with Wordle - just a commonality for people to connect over. Right now, I'm in a family group chat with my parents, uncle, aunt, grandparents + cousins and all we do is post our Wordle scores each day (NO SPOILERS). It's obviously not an apples to apples comparison, but I hope you see the point I'm trying to make.

At the time of Fortnite's origin (roughly late 2017 and early 2018), everyone jumped on whatever console they had to try and secure that Victory Royale. Friends that hardly ever gamed before were now spending all of their waking time trying to loot for that Gold scar or drop Tilted in hopes of coming out alive. It was truly the golden era of gaming and I'm not sure if it could ever be topped.

Anyways, when did Fortnite actually start turning sour? I think about this a lot, mainly cause I'm a nerd but also because I overthink everything, and the answer always seems to point in one direction: creative mode dropping.

On December 6th, 2018, Fortnite changed forever with the addition to the creative mode. While creative brought a ton of fun with the game, it also gave certain kids the ability to practicing their editing and building for HOURS on end. As big of a nerd as I am, I never once felt the need to practice my editing and building. I just wanted to frag out with the boys and try to secure some dubs. Once creative dropped and players had the ability to practice building/editing at their will, the game skill ramped up significantly faster than ever before.

Fortnite is also one of the best games out there because the person with the higher skill will win 99% of fights - but that also makes it insanely frustrating when you can't build/edit like these 13 year old demons.

Now I just wanna mention a quick note here, I'm coming from the perspective of the casual Fortnite gamer that loved the game but never wanted to go pro or really even take their game to the next level. Think about the difference between AAU basketball players and the washed up adult trying to get cardio in during pickup basketball. One has clear motive to improve their game while the other is really just enjoying a hobby after work.

So I'm not saying creative mode completely ruined Fortnite, but for the average gamer it made the game significantly less enjoyable. Everyone talks about the meme where you see a John Wick skin and then there's immediately a skyscraper in front of you from his building.

Creative also brought a lot of good with it like Cizzorz Deathruns which made for some of my favorite Fortnite content to watch:

Fortnite currently is probably in one of the best places it's been in for a while, but I always miss those early Fortnite days…
