Every Night Keeps Proving This College Basketball Season Is Nothing But Pure Mayhem And Honestly It's What We Deserve

I legit tried to think of a good way to put this blog together and this is the best I can do. Every single night we're getting mayhem in college basketball. We deserve it. I keep saying this because we do. The 2020 Tournament getting pulled from us meant we missed out on a year that was WIDE open. Last year worked out where we got the two best teams in the NCAA Tournament title game. It's rare that it works out that way and it was a clear cut top-2 teams. This year though? 

Well it's like 2020 and a little bit like 2014. It's honestly a better version of 2020. There were only two teams on KenPom with an adjusted efficiency margin over 26 in 2020. This year? We have 8. Those eight are Gonzaga, Arizona, Kentucky, Houston, Purdue, Baylor, Kansas and Auburn. Pretty fair list in terms of what you think of analytics. But then you look with your eyes and just watch the games and you can tell it's going to be mayhem. Every single night we're getting upset after upset. Last night, which was a relatively weak slate, saw three upsets and four unranked teams beating ranked teams. 

Shit you can even look at the odds on Barstool Sportsbook and see how jumbled up it is: 

I don't think Gonzaga should be at +575, but I do think they are the best team in the country right now. You could find some serious value in these odds when you look and see a team like Providence at +10000. Just hilarious to see the 11th ranked team in the country at similar odds to teams that are going to miss the Tournament. I'm still holding my futures from the preseason with Kentucky, Purdue, Texas and Xavier. Feel confident that those 4 will at least make the tournament and go from there. That's not the point though.

This is about how college basketball is hitting at the right time. Chief talked about it as a casual fan on the Rundown last night: 

Casual fans tune in to see one of two things: 1) unbelievable loaded teams like Zion, 2015 Kentucky, etc or 2) a ton of upsets. This year we're getting the upsets while still having damn good teams. Whether it's individual talent like Jabari Smith, Jaden Ivey, Paolo, Chet, Oscar, etc or those top-10 teams, there's plenty of talent to draw people in. But then you have upsets happening seemingly every night. It's awesome. It's what this sport needed this year and we were owed.
