A Painting Worth Over $800k Has Been "Destroyed" After a Bored Security Guard Working His 1st Day On The Job Drew Eyes on The Faceless Figures
(Daily Mail) On his first day on the job, the security guard had drawn two pairs of eyes with a ballpoint pen onto artist Anna Leporskaya's 'Three Figures' (1932–1934) painting during an abstract art exhibition at the Yeltsin Center in the city of Yekaterinburg, western Russia.
The painting was defaced by a security guard, who has not been named but is believed to be 60-years-old, who worked for a private security company, the Yeltsin Center said in a statement.
The painting, which was on loan from the State Tretyakov Gallery in Moscow, was damaged by the security guard after he is said to have became bored on his first day. He has since been fired.
There are two types of people in this world: those that side with the security guard and those that side with the art exhibit snobs. I for one am team security guard and don't want to know anyone on the other side.
This unnamed hero was on his very first day working the job and got bored. Who amongst us hasn't gotten bored and fucked around? Also, first days suck as Carl detailed beautifully in his blog a few weeks ago, which you can read here. You have to find ways to make the most of them.
So what did this security guard do to get himself fired on day one? As he was walking around bored as shit he noticed the artist of a certain painting forgot to put eyes on the figures in their work. Classic mistake, but lucky for the exhibit they hired a security guard with a great eye for detail. On his first day he was going to impress everyone and save the exhibit. This was his moment.
I mean look how much better the painting on the right looks compared to the left. It's honestly not even close if we're being completely honest. If the original was worth $850k, then the new version is easily a million and a half. Who is buying a painting that has people with no eyes in it? Not even gouged out eyes, but zero eyes in the first place. That's the work of a child. Anyone saying this painting was destroyed or ruined needs to be out of the art game at this very moment. We can't allow these clowns to pollute the world with their thoughts. Also get me the name of the person who valued that piece at $850k. Tarred and feathered in town square.
I feel for the security guard since he was fired for being a hero. Hopefully a rival exhibit picks him up and utilizes his keen eye. I also really hope Putin didn't like that painting.
I love how the police are conducting a full investigation here to get to the bottom of it
Police have now opened an investigation for vandalism, with comes with a £395 (74.9 million Russian Rubles) dine and a one-year correctional labour sentence.
Hey guys, he saw the painting didn't have eyes and drew them on. Case closed, saved you a bunch of paperwork.
P.S. Don't show the security guard this scene from Mr. Bean
