Today Is A Great Day For 90s Rock - New Music From Red Hot Chili Peppers, Liam Gallagher/Dave Grohl Collab

Happy Friday, ladies and gentlemen! I'm gonna cut right to the chase here - some great new music dropped for fans of 90s rock today and I'm here to tell you about it.

We're starting off with 'Black Summer', the Red Hot Chili Peppers' first single off their new record, 'Unlimited Love' (due out April 1st), which is the first song of theirs featuring John Frusciante in 16 years....

'Stadium Arcadium' was the last thing Frusciante and the Chili Peppers worked on together in 2004-5, and it sounds like they picked up right where they left off with 'Black Summer', which is rumored to be written about the recent death of Anthony Kiedis' father. Frusciante's insanely recognizable guitar tone is back in full force, with one of the greatest rhythm sections in all of rock n' roll backing him, and Anthony Kiedis is bein' all Anthony Kiedis-y singing half the track in an Irish accent. It rules, and it's only made better by watching the music video, because seeing those four guys jamming together again will just put a big ol' smile on your face.

I'm VERY excited for this album to drop - and for their stadium tour this Summer....

Next, let's talk about the newest single from my guy Liam Gallagher, 'Everything's Electric', which was co-written by Dave Grohl and Foo Fighters producer Greg Kurstin (with Dave on the drums!)….

This is the first single from Liam's new album, 'C'mon You Know' (which releases on May 27th), and according to the man himself on RadioX this morning, it was the final song recorded for the "80% peculiar" LP….

Just when he thought he was done with his third solo album, he got a call saying Dave Grohl and Greg Kurstin had a song for him to listen to that might fit his style - and it wound up being 'Everything's Electric'. Crazy how those things work out.

It's got a really ripping 'electric' intro with really sick bass/guitar sonics, the drums are fantastic by not too show-y throughout (as you'd expect from a master like Grohl), and Liam's vocal track is outta this world good. He's hitting notes I thought were lost in the 90s and transitioning to falsettos on the end of phrases like he's singing on one of the first Oasis records or something!

I've had the super anthemic chorus stuck in my head all morning and can't wait to belt it out alongside 85,000 other fans at Knebworth this Summer….

It's also pretty fucking cool that Dave Grohl and Greg Kurstin recorded this, for what I assume was a Foo Fighters/non-Liam Gallagher project, thought "This sounds like it could be a Liam Gallagher song", and sent it over to him. Either that or they specifically wrote a song for Liam - which is, now that I'm thinking about it, just as cool.

Two of the last true rockstars on this planet working together….tremendous.
