Cool Shit That Exists: A Fungi That Can Eat Toxic Radiation And Clean Up Nuclear Disasters Like Chernobyl

Shout out to the stoolie who DM'd me this account. I am in year 4 of this job and some of you know how to get to the core of my brain and it obviously it is with fungi that can clean up toxic nuclear waste and radiation. That's my wheelhouse. Nerd shit that I am not nearly smart enough to understand, but still find interesting. This is one of those things that gets me going because it feels like something that occurs naturally that could solve a potentially huge problem if we knew how to harness and use it. All we ever hear about is how fossil fuels are killing the planet. What energy source is the cleanest and most efficient?...nuclear. Why won't they use nuclear in a more widespread manor?...because people are afraid of disasters like Chernobyl and Fukushima. Well...just make an entire farm of these little fungi and have them ready to go just in case.

But...nope. We got scientists out there doing all sorts of more important work

As much I as would like to know if my dog would also respond to me calling him Jorge I think all of our scientific funding should go towards things that actually matter, like…saving the planet. That is just me though.

I found this video that explains these fungi and bacteria that eat radiation for breakfast. No matter what:
