A New Mario Kart Is Reportedly In "Active Development" And It Honestly May Be The Best News I've Heard In Years

So Reags just blogged this a few hours ago and while I have always liked him, there is a reason we nickhamed him Bad Take Bobby about a half decade ago. So with that being said, I have no choice but to hit him with this clip.

Here is the story for those that didn't see is that a video game industry analyst had this to say about a new Kart coming out.

Gamesindustry.biz- I am aware Mario Kart 8 Deluxe is still selling very well on the Nintendo Switch, but Mario Kart 9 is in active development (and comes with a new twist) and Nintendo could tease it this year. On mobile, Nintendo has been very silent since Mario Kart Tour's launch in 2019, but I think 2022 is when we will see an established IP arriving on smart devices again.

In what world is a new Mario Kart a bad thing? I get the whole being old and scared of change is a very real thing, since I am older than Reags which also means I have been yelling at innovation due to my fear of becoming outdated/dead. But Kart is one of the few things that stays fresh with every update because the gameplay is timeless. Here are Cutty and Slim Charles from The Wire discussing the new Mario Kart.

Every Mario Kart that comes out builds on the greatness of its predecessors while also innovating for the future just like all other great video games. Mario Kart 64 was cool but if we stopped there, we would've never ventured to DK Mountain or been able to turn into a giant Bullet Bill and annihilate everything in our path.

Should Grand Theft Auto have stopped popping out GTAs after Vice City? Should Call Of Duty honorably discharged itself from the gaming world after Modern Warfare 2? Can you imagine a world where Nintendo never released another Goldeneye?

Yeahhhh, Nintendo really dropped the ball on that even though Perfect Dark was a blast. Shout out the laptop gun

It's not like a new Kart is just a roster update with a fresh coat of paint and a $59.99 price tag like Madden. When a new Kart comes out, you get new courses, a sprinkling of old courses to scratch that nostalgic itch, new drivers, and a bunch of fresh innovations (I know they technically remade Mario Kart 8 from the Wii U for the Switch. But NOBODY had the Wii U so I give Nintendo a pass).

I'll admittedly hate the innovations the first time I play, just like I'll hate whatever this "new twist" will be. But by the end of my first week with the game, I'll be amazed that the new twist never existed beforehand. This is especially that case with the two characters in Double Dash, which was a very good Mario Kart game no matter what people thought of Gamecube.

Oh yeah and you can play online in case your friends can no longer come over for hours at a time because you have kids, are washed up, and/or no longer live across the hall from each other like in college (just make sure you choose Regional unless you like getting absolutely smoked by gamers on the other side of the world). Plus if there is say a global pandemic, you can play with pals in other states without leaving your couch.

Even Olds like Reags and I can appreciate a new Mario Kart game since you can pass along the experience of obliterating your closest family members with shells to a new generation while also not looking like a fossil for giving them a game that has polygonal graphics and no touch screen.

The bottom line is Mario Kart is the best video game franchise ever because it is fun and can be played by anyone. Your parents, your kids, the girls down the hall you are too scared to talk to unless you are drunk. Everyone loves Kart because they can play Kart and occasionally win at it thanks to the great equalizers like the blue shell, lightning bolt, and golden mushroom. All a new Mario Kart means is unlimited new great memories for people around the world.

Sorry if this came across as rambling at any point but 2022 finally gave us a sliver of hope for the first time since the rona hit with rumors of a Mario Kart 9 and I'll be damned if I let anybody to bring me down right now. Also sorry for bringing up the Bob Take Bobby name, Reags but I am going through it right now in the Casa de Clem.

All that being said, Mario Kart Mobile is a true abomination to the Lord and the only excuse Nintendo has for making such a shit game is they don't want people taking down the world's cellular data because they are glued to their screens playing Kart. This actually is valid for all Nintendo mobile games.

Now if you will excuse me, I have to go kick my kids' asses in Mario Kart since I have been cooped up with them for damn near a month now and I need to re-establish dominance in this house. Here's the Mario Kart ride in Japan if you are looking to scratch your Kart itch but don't have it in your house for some terrible reason.

P.S. Reags is right about one thing. Yoshi is the GOAT. Also anybody that played as Toad instantly lost significant points in my book the minute they picked that mushroom headed weirdo that doesn’t wear shirts under his vest
