The New Apple Watch Commercial Is Probably The Most Convincing Advertisement I've Ever Seen

Everyone thinks about this from time to time while watching TV- do commercials really do anything? How effective are ads? Do you pay attention to them, or do they go in one ear and out the other and you never think about them again? Advertising is a trillion dollar business, so I assume they know what they're doing. Even if we feel ads aren't effective, I'm sure subliminally they are. Some better than others, of course, but nonetheless I would have to assume the Don Drapers of the world are still out there doing everything in their power to get us to buy their product. Enter, Apple Watch.

I never really thought I needed an Apple Watch. My phone is always in my hand, my pocket, or 3 inches away from me on my bed or couch, do I really need a tinier version sitting on my wrist? I'd say no. Besides, aren't our 2022 resolutions to stare at screens less, not more? That's what I thought until I saw the Apple Watch commercial last night, and now I am pretty sure I am going to die, literally DIE, if I don't get one right now this second.

SEE?????

I wasn't lying. I don't know how I've gone this long in my life without an Apple Watch. What an amazing advertising campaign. "Get our product or you'll die a slow, painful, agonizing death". Well I'm fucking sold. I've been in the ocean before, what if the wind took me out to sea?! What if I broke my leg while harvesting my crops?! What if I drove into a lake?????? And those are only 3 very realistic scenarios that can happy to you and I and any given moment. With my bare wrists I'd be dead. Just laying there in my wheat field, bone through my leg Alex Smith style, unable to call 911.

I do think Apple screwed up though- this should have been a Super Bowl ad. It's been a while since a Super Bowl ad really took the world by storm, and this could have been it. They blew their load a few weeks early, big miss in my opinion. Regardless though, it's one of the most convincing ads I've ever seen. Oh no no, I'm not going to go buy one, I don't want to live that badly, but still, a great ad.

PS: I had never seen this before last night, but this is an INCREDIBLE ad. Never in 5,000 years would I have guessed what it was for. 10/10, 5 stars.
