Brian Kelly Developed a Southern Accent Quicker Than He Abandoned His Notre Dame Team

Brian Kelly has had a rough go of it in terms of PR in the last 48 hours. Not that he gives a shit, because he's $100 million richer, but the media and court of public opinion have been none too kind to the Notre Dame-turned-LSU head coach. So he wants to make sure he at least starts off on the right foot with the fans at his new school.

And apparently, his method of ensuring that happened was breaking out whatever accent you hear in that video from LSU's women's basketball game on Thursday night. After I first heard him say what is supposed to be the word "family" at the 19-second mark, I had to go back and listen about five more times. What in the world is this guy trying to do with his voice?

This is a man who is from Massachusetts and has lived for the last 30 years in Michigan, Ohio and Indiana. I get that you want the folks down in Louisiana to like you, but you're not the guy to be breaking out the Southern accent, Brian. You're not fooling anyone. If the flashes of whatever accent it's supposed to be sounded like anything, it was an Alabama or Southern Georgia accent, which sound about as much like people from Louisiana as Kelly's regular speaking voice does.

I almost feel bad for the guy. He just wants these people to like him because he cowardly ran away from his previous job in the dead of night to chase the bag and now he knows he better win — which I believe he probably will. But we don't need all the theatrics, pal. Just go look for your $1.2 million house LSU is giving you an interest-free loan on and hit the recruiting trail.
