REPORT: Marcus Freeman Will Be Named The Next Head Coach Of Notre Dame

Look...I don't know who this kid is, but I was impressed with him on his spaces the other night when the Kelly news broke. He had everyone listening to that chat. Ian Book, Cole Kmet, Isaac Rochelle from TikTok(and the Colts), Kyle Hamilton joined live, I think I saw McGlinchey in there, 2022 recruits, among others. I trust Mick Assaf on this even though I just learned of his existence like 48 hours ago. Former walk-on. That spaces chat felt like a private locker room group chat that was publicly available to thousands. It was great. A guy named CJ Golson is also reporting it. I have no idea who he is, but why would he lie?

Freeman just makes sense. He was the hottest assistant coach on the market last off-season and he turned down Coach O before coming to ND. Brian Kelly slipped up right before the season on a podcast with Steph Curry and said that Marcus Freeman was the next coach. The writing has been on the wall and I hope that this is formally announced while I am typing.

A couple things I know for sure...

1) The seniors and team leaders did in fact advocate for Freeman to AD Jack Swarbrick.

2) The guy can flat out recruit. Notre Dame has as good of a recruiting as they've had basically in my lifetime. In Kelly's 12 years at ND the Irish usually sat in the 8-12 range for nationally ranking, for whatever that is worth. Freeman comes in and poof...instantly top 5 for 2022 and 2023. Losing those recruits would kill ND

3) The guy can coach. This was a weird year for Notre Dame. They lost a lot to the NFL Draft. It was a rebuilding year and Freeman's guys got better and better every week. By the end of the season, even with their best player injured, Notre Dame's defense looked like one of the best in the country.

I think this is a great hire for the reasons above. One more thing about Freeman though...he just seems sweet. Young, handsome, fit, and has a natural charm when you seem him interviewed. If he wasn't a football coach I could see him in politics. You can just picture him in the living room of a recruit making the mom blush and the dad proud. You can picture him on the campaign trail kissing babies. You need to have a little bit of that to be a great coach at Notre Dame and Marcus Freeman, in my eyes at least, has it. So much so that I don't even think people will miss Kelly or be mad that he's gone once the hire is officially announced.

I hope this is coupled with the announcement that they dipped into the Basilica's collection basket from Sunday to pay Tommy Rees. Also make sure this guy is happy too because he made me want to run through a wall here in this clip

Notre Dame is still climbing the mountain. FUCK the CFP committee. Go Baylor. Go Iowa. Go Houston. Go Georgia.

I want Notre Dame in the playoff and I look forward to a hungry and pissed off Notre Dame team getting into a rock fight against Georgia in the semifinal.

This is a good day for Notre Dame. The 2022 uNDefeated blog will practically write itself.
