The First Look At The New Halo Series Has Me HORNED UP
Halo is set to follow "an epic 26th-century conflict between humanity and an alien threat known as the Covenant. Halo will weave deeply drawn personal stories with action, adventure and a richly imagined vision of the future."
In case you weren't aware, this series stars Pablo Schreiber(Den of Thieves, OITNB) as the big boss himself, Natascha McElhone(Californication) as his creator Dr. Halsey, Bokeem Woodbine(Fargo) as another Spartan II that is left disfigured by the augmentation process, and most importantly, it has Jen Taylor returning as the voice of Cortana.
Halo is a property that has an insanely deep lore. It is insane that it has taken this long for a proper rendition to make its way to screen. And don't come to me with that Forward Unto Dawn bullshit. The best Halo property to come out was that animated anthology series, and that isn't in the same world we're talking about. As someone who has played through all the Halo campaigns a million times and read a ton of Halo books, this is really exciting. I can't wait to see this brought to life with a jacked king like Pablo Schreiber under the helmet.
My question is how they approach this story from a long-term perspective. The SPARTAN-II soldiers story is fascinating and it can start a lot earlier than the war with the Covenant. They were all children stolen by that universes version of the CIA and replaced with "flash clones", which were basically clones designed to die not long after creation. They were put through an insane augmentation process that included grafting metal onto their bones, injecting shit into their blood vessels and brains and worse. All that was done to them not so that they could fight aliens. It was so they could fight humans! Rebels in the outer colonies! They were basically super soldiers designed to be the fist of the space gestapo!
I think it would be really cool if they got a deeper look into the origins and initial missions of the SPARTANS before getting deep into the covenant stuff. I think, theoretically, it would also help from a production standpoint. Instead of having to get straight into super heavy CGI work early, they could start with human vs human conflict.
The series is already done and I don't think that's the path they took. But a man can dream.
