Lucas Giolito and Jack Flaherty Will Be in Houston to Watch Their High School Teammate Max Fried Try to Win the Braves the World Series

When Max Fried takes the mound in Game 6 of the World Series on Tuesday night, he'll have two of his former high school teammates there in Houston to watch him. I'm sure that's no different from many players whose friends and family go watch them play, especially on a stage like this, except for the fact that Fried's high school teammates are Lucas Giolito and Jack Flaherty.

The three spent one year together at Harvard-Westlake High School in Los Angeles, where Fried transferred after his previous school, Montclair Prep, got rid of its athletic department prior to his senior year in 2011. Both he and Giolito were committed to UCLA and decided to team up a year early — though neither ended up playing for the Bruins.

Now, a decade later, all three are star pitchers in the big leagues and Giolito and Flaherty will get to watch their friend possibly pitch the Atlanta Braves to their first World Series title in 26 years.

Fried is due. After allowing 2 ER over 12 IP in his first two starts this Postseason, he has given up 10 ER in 9.2 IP in the two starts since. If you think Max Fried is going to have three bad starts in a row with a World Championship on the line, you are absolutely out of your mind. The buck stops here.

I'm glad Giolito and Flaherty will be in the crowd to see their buddy shove against the Houston Astros in the World Series. This thing ends tonight.
