Keanu Reeves' John Wick Stunt Team is Called 'The John Wick Five' And He Gave Each Member a Customized Rolex Watch as a Thank You For Their Latest Movie
In the latest edition of Keanu Reeves being a great human he gave a nice thank you to the stunt team who worked on his upcoming film 'John Wick 4.' Just some $10k customized Rolex watches for the four guys who put their bodies on the line for the beauty of cinema and the story of John Wick viciously beating the shit out of everyone in his way. I think being part of the fraternity called 'The John Wick 5' is pretty much the coolest club you can be a part of in life. You've hit the pinnacle and no one can touch you. The Rolex watch is a nice touch, but being able to say you are in that club is probably the great honor a man can have.
It does look like Keanu is the fifth member of that exclusive club proving he actually does spend money on himself. He was once quoted saying, "money is the last thing I think about" and with all the stories you read about the guy you wonder if he's actually given every dime he's earned away. This story about what he did for the people who worked on the effects and costumes for the Matrix movies always blows me away. He truly felt the trilogy's success would not have been possible without them.
For the first film in the trilogy, Reeves made $10 million up front, which, when combined with his back-end deal, upped his salary to $35 million. Amazingly, when it came time to negotiate his back-end profit sharing deal for the second and third "Matrix" films, Keanu insisted on handing over a significant portion of his back-end points to the films' special effects and costume design teams. Reeves felt (and rightly so) that the men and women who created the effects and costumes for the franchise were the true heroes of the movie.
So how'd this work out for the FX and costume teams? The second and third Matrix movies earned more than $1.2 billion at the worldwide box office. When it was all said and done, Keanu reportedly ended up giving away an estimated $75 million dollars. Each member of these teams received $1 million dollars per person, instantly making them all millionaires. But Keanu didn't stop at just the special effects and costume teams. He also gave the entire stunt team on the "Matrix" sequels Harley Davidson motorcycles. (source)
There are tons of other stories if you scan the internet which help prove he very well might be the nicest, most down to earth, generous man in the world. There are tales of how he goes out of his way to learn everyone's name on set just out of the kindness of his heart. He donates a fuck ton of money to charity and does his best to not attach his name to it in any way. He's a true one of a kind human being who has unfortunately dealt with a ton of tragedy along the way. It's never stopped him. Keanu giving out customized Rolex watches to his stunt team isn't earth shattering news, but it continues the narrative of how appreciative and awesome a dude he is, despite how high level of celebrity he is in the world. With how many douchebags there are in the celebrity world it's pretty cool seeing someone like him do what he does. What a legend.
I cannot wait for John Wick 4.
