Folks Are Angry That Netflix Is Using A 16:9 Aspect Ratio For Seinfeld & Now I'm Just Really Confused
NY Post- Fans of “Seinfeld” are fuming with Netflix after the show’s new exclusive streaming service changed the sitcom’s original 4:3 aspect ratio to the narrower, more modern and cinematic version of 16:9 — literally cutting out jokes in the process.
And die-hard supporters — who endured a summer without streaming the 1990s humor of co-creators Larry David, 74, and Jerry Seinfeld, 67, since the show departed from Hulu — have been quick to call out instances where the new ratio’s shrinkage on the top and bottom of the screen has caused problems. Other fans have aired grievances that Jerry’s sneaker collection — his footwear being a character of its own in many ways — has also been cut out from the contemporary ratio, according to Complex.
I'm confused. So, so, so, so, so, so beyond confused. For starters what the hell is an aspect ratio? I didn't even know things like this existed-I always assumed shows were just conforming to the size of your television whenever you stream them. This stuff is that bad that it's to the point of not watching? I'm perplexed.
I have to fall asleep to a show that I find very comforting so that normally means a show like Friends, Entourage, the Sopranos, or hell even Diners Drive-In's and Dives, so for the past week I've been trying my hand at Seinfeld since I've been so thrilled with the fact that it's on Netflix now and it's worked like a CHARM. This so-called 'aspect ratio' hasn't even crossed my mind as I've enjoyed the gang go through the trials and tribulations of the puffy the shirt, the mango, the bris, and much much more. If this dumb ratio is holding you back from enjoying Seinfeld then, frankly, I fucking hate you.
Now sure is something like with the pothole annoying? Of course it is.
But you just gotta stuff your sorry's in a sack mister and enjoy that damn television. It's been a horrible year and even more so with no Seinfeld on streaming services so just sit back, relax, and forget about the fucking aspect ratios. You all are not Steven Spielberg (if that makes any sense).
