This 2,700-Year-Old Stone With A Hole In It Found In Jerusalem Is As Lavish As A Toilet Gets

NY Post- Israeli archaeologists have found a rare ancient toilet in Jerusalem dating back more than 2,700 years when private bathrooms were a luxury in the holy city, authorities said Tuesday.

The Israeli Antiquities Authority said the smooth, carved limestone toilet was found in a rectangular cabin that was part of a sprawling mansion overlooking what is now the Old City. It was designed for comfortable sitting, with a deep septic tank dug underneath.

“A private toilet cubicle was very rare in antiquity, and only a few were found to date,” said Yaakov Billig, the director of the excavation.

“Only the rich could afford toilets,” he said, adding that a famed rabbi once suggested that to be wealthy is “to have a toilet next to his table.”

Lavish! Look at that bad boy! Nothing gets someone buzzing more than the most luxurious piece of stone to poop in in all of the land. You got a place to sit. You got stone. You got a hole. That might as well be like having a shower, a bathtub, AND a bidet at a 5-star hotel in 2021.

In all seriousness, what an interesting thing this was to see on a Tuesday morning. I find the whole idea of ancient times very fascinating with the most enticing aspect of that being every day life. I've often wondered about odd things like per say what if someone had something like bad acne back then? Did they think they were curse & had them exiled or killed? Did they think that solar eclipses were signs from the gods? Did they also think that bad weather was a sign from the gods? These are things that keep me up at night. Though one of the most important ones were how the bathroom scenario used to work out back then due to, if anyone watched Barstool Vs. America, my severe bathroom anxiety.

This guy needs peace & quiet when he's in his office for not only himself, but more so for the others around him. So that article also said that a private toilet was that rare back in the day? You had to poop with others? Like make eye contact and shit while doing an actual shit? Miss me with that. Thank heavens I was born in 1996.
